My wife and I rented a place in Malaga for next September and I asked a friend, who went in that area, about info on the region... He told me a peculiar story :
He was in Granada for a business trip 2-3 years ago -- computer systems stuff -- and was invited to a bull-fight by the boss of the company that employed his services.
He had a great experience, smoking great Cubans, and, after the fight, the Spanish guy took him to a restaurant just off the arena, where he had made reservations. My friend ordered some paella but the boss-dude got, with a fancy presentation, to huge things that looked like big round meat balls. Yup, it was the prairie oysters from one of the bulls form the corrida we just saw. He learned that you could have them at that restaurant if you reserved sufficiently in advance and a connections.
So, last year, he went back on vacation with his spouse and asked the Spaniard to make reservations for him so that he could savour those gonads after the bull-fight -- which he didn't go to cause his wife didn't like the idea... He sat down in anticipation but, when the plate came, it was just these two little things, like oversize kidney beans.
He asked the waiter : "What's this? It looks nothing like the ones I saw the last time around..."
So, the waiter says : "Well, sometimes, it's not the bull that loses..."
Yuk, yuk!
But seriously, anyone know good cigar shops (estancos) in or around Malaga?
Thanks!

I don't specifically know of any estancos in Malaga, there will be a couple with good selections I imagine. But is better news is that you are just a short drive from Gibraltar, and a particularly fine shop Stagnettos. I plan on making the trip myself this summer at some point. Taxes have been unkind to spanish estancos in recen years and prices in Gibraltar though in pounds are markedly cheaper than in spain.

Indeed, and our Irish friend AnRyan provided me with all the info on Gibraltar shops -- with Google Earth pointers and everything -- and I do plan on going there. But I was just checking out local alternatives, mostly for the Spanish REs...

I'll be in Gib myself in 2 weeks time. If there's any news I'll let you know. I've been in Malaga a couple of times but never long enough to do any cigar shopping. Googling 'Estanco Malaga' will bring back quite a few results. Prices will all be the same, it's selection and storage conditions you're after. Looking forward to the Cava de Betis in Seville too, I've heard very good things about the place.

I've been to malaga several times (my friends have a house there.) However, I never went cigar shopping. Sevilla is relatively close by - a lovely drive along the coast for a little while. If you haven't been, I strongly suggest Sevilla.
