Thats news to me! Product: Bóveda One Step Calibration Type: Hygrometer Calibration Kit Website: http://www.bovedadirect.com/
BACKGROUND: If you have purchased a box of Fuente Hemingway Series, Fuente Fuente Opus X, or Don Carlos, you’ve probably seen this product. Fuente’s fine cigars come shipped with a small humidity packet inside the box. Bóveda, using Humidipak’s two-way humidity control technology, is looking to make a huge impact in the cigar humidification industry.
The patented technology of the two-way humidity control is impressive. The packet responds to the outside environment by adding or depleting pure water vapor as needed to maintain a constant internal environment.
SET UP AND USE: [Score: 96] The hygrometer calibration kit consists of a thick, high-barrier plastic bag, much like a refrigerator storage bag, and a Bóveda humidity packet, set at 75.5% relative humidity (RH). The set up couldn’t be easier. You just insert a hygrometer (either digital or analog) into the bag along with the packet and then close the top zipper. After waiting 24-36 hours, you check the hygrometer display. If you have an analog hygro, you can then adjust it to the correct humidity level or, if you have a digital hygro, you cannot adjust it but can note the margin of error and take that into account when reading the values. Bóveda recommends that you calibrate your hygrometers every 6 months (The packets are guaranteed to be accurate for 3 months).
FUNCTION: [Score: 94] I used the kit to calibrate 3 different digital hygrometers. The first, a Little Havana, had a reading of 79% RH after 25 hours, which was a +4.5% error factor. The second hygro was a Humidor Supreme 3" Digital Hygrometer (74% RH, -1.5% error) and a third was a different Little Havana, just to see if the error was consistent across hygrometers from the same manufacturer (79% RH, +4.5% error). The error factor was indeed consistent.
For those of us who prefer digital hygrometers, because of their accuracy relative to analog hygros, the calibration system is a godsend. Since digital hygros can’t be calibrated, the best you can hope for is to know, with relative certainty, the margin of error and then factor that error into the readings. The calibration kit makes knowing the margin of error a snap. One thing to keep in mind is that the humidity packets are only guaranteed to be accurate to +/- 3%. That means that there is still some imprecision in the overall measurements.
VALUE: [Score: 95] At a MSRP of 4.97 per kit, this is a bargain. With one packet, you can calibrate as many hygrometers as you wish. I would recommend this product without reservation.

I've heard of the bevoda packs. But it seemed that for a zero cost you could calibrate the hygro using the salt test so I didn't bother to buy them and wait for them to be shipped here.
I'm just a little surprised that my two hygro are 8% and 10% off...
Is it too much offset ?
Thanks Fred

The Boveda One-Step Calibration Kit is a simple and surefire method to accurately calibrate any digital or analog hygrometer or humidity sensor. The One-Step Calibration Kit utilizes Humidipak's 75.5% relative humidity standard, which is widely used and accepted by chemists and lab professionals to determine the accuracy of any hygromter (also known as the "salt test").
I use Boveda and it is great. EVery 3 months i get 10 packs and just replace the old ones. It maintains a constant 69%.

About 6 months ago, i purchased a CHEAP humi, that i thought would work fine. needless to say it turned out to be a piece of cowdung.
saying that, recently purchased a 75 count humi, i wont get into detail what i did with it, how i seasoned it etc., but TOTALLY go with what Sheepshead Bay said, GET THE BOVEDA CALIBRATION KIT. It is PERFECT!!!! make sure too to leave it in the coolest room in the house while calibrating it. Right now in Houston, that could be the biggest challenge. Not sure where u live, but just a heads up.
Anyhow, i bought the kit, and after all, it was NOT my hygrometer that was the problem, it was a leak in my OLD humi!!! needless to say that is why i bought the new one.
It is totally adjustable with the knob on the right, which is pretty slick, so u dont have to guess at all anymore. after i deemed my humi to be seasoned, about 5-7 days using suggestions from this forum, AFTER i calibrated my digital, the one shown above, Everything was ready to roll. Now my humi RH% is DEAD ON!!!
right now in my humi, i have 3 69% Boveda packs, about 50+ cigars, and it has stayed steady @ 69% for a week or so now.
i dont care who u r, but it DOES NOT get any more better then that.
to me, it was all in the Hygrometer, humi and definitely the calibration kit.
END OF THREAD!

Heat is not a problem here in Quebec City. It snowed a bit this morning so... you get the picture ! I still see snow on the ground in the backyard. Should be gone within a week or two though
I thought about buying the Calibration kit but I did the salt test on two of my hygro and the both ended at the same RH after 24 hours. They were both at about 69%.
I have placed my home made humidifier (with floral oasis) in my coolerdor and after a couple hours, the hygro showed 69% which is a bit high since it would mean approx 75%. It showed the same after a full day. I may have overdimensioned my oasis. And also I don't have anything in my coolerdor except for the humudification device and the hygro. I will try to grab some empty boxes from a friend and place them there to see if it stabalize lower. But I don't think it will. I really think my humidifier is oversized for my medium size cooler.
And about the hygro, I think the salt test I did was pretty accurate but if I have any doubts in the forecomming weeks, I'll go for that Calibration Kit.
Thanks Fred
