I could have sworn the people of Lesbos went by another name. It's it one of the ancient history textbooks, or I could have sworn.
I mean, just to call a homosexual female a Lesbian because Sappho was born on the island wasn't correct. I mean, not all the women on the island were having sex with each other, although that would be nice to see . So she makes a few comments about woman on woman action and bam, the term lesbian applies to homosexual love between woman.
Plus, when they say we have fragments of her work, they do mean fragments. In my Greek poetry class we read a few senetences.
You want homosexual poetry from ancient times, read Catullus, funny stuff. I look up an unfamiliar word and there on my computer screen pops up "Male prostitute who submits to anal sex". I wasn't expecting that.
"Think for a moment about whether it is ethical to throw a living creature into boiling water before sucking it down with a cup of melted butter"
Perhaps this could be resolved with mud wrestling?
