I am going to buy a new lighter soon and was wondering what everyone else is using and what you all would recommend. Thanks in advance.

I have a Vector Orione dual burner jet torch. It has a good reservoir and a built in punch in the bottom. I think I paid about $35-40. It's my first cigar lighter. I like it. Everyone that uses it likes it. I would buy another one, for what that's worth. Vector makes a fine product. It's the same one that my local tobacconist uses.

My personal choice is Colibri Trifecta, a triple flame lighter that is great for cigars.

Many people use Dupont lighters which are more expensive but well worth it.

Whatever you do DO NOT USE RONSON butane. Use a permium butane like Vector, Colibri or Prometheus. Ronson will clog your lighter and make it worthless.

Ronson Butane, I agree, is a no-no...which is odd...you'd think butane is butane...but it's clogged my lighters up...I learned the hard way...

However, go to Walmart and pick up a Ronson jet lighter while you decide what to buy...the Ronson is $2.98 and I have yet to have one fail...I also have a Prometheus TRX (around $75) and am 100% satisfied with it...

just my suggestions...

Xikar Executive - gunmetal.

awesome lighter, lights everytime, and has a lifetime warranty. and like the others mentioned, use high quality, triple-refined, premium butane. as long as you use the good stuff, your lighter shouldn't plug. and with Xikar, if it does plug, they'll replace it.

I was recently in the market for a new lighter and on the advice of my local b&m owner got a Tiger. Only cost $20 and the owner said he would replace it anytime if it broke (he can just send it back to the manufacturer for a replacement, no loss for him). So far (2 months) it has worked perfectly. You may want to check with your local store and see what they recommend.

I have a Colibri enterprise - three burner. It has a punch on the bottom, too. It is a rather large lighter, but fires in 30 mph winds.

Also had to send it in once to get it reconditioned, and it came back with almost all new parts, and it only cost me $6 for shipping.

I'd buy another Colibri because this one is very dependable, and they showed me some fine customer service.

I like Zippo, luckily they are releasing "Zippo Blu" soon. The Blu is a butane torch lighter that has a similar appearance to the average Zippo but it has lightly rounded corners. Apparently it was designed with cigar smokers in mind, sounds good to me.

My favorite is the Xicar. Comes in 5 colors, although I like the gunmetal color best. I paid only $20.00 for it. It is a great lighter, always works.

My Xikar Executive doesnt seem to like being refueled. More butane seems to spray out on my hand than ends up in the lighter.

Literally everyone I know uses an IM Corona Old Boy soft flame. I'm talking over a dozen guys. They're built like little tanks, function flawlessly, and even using one to light 1-2 cigars a day I only have to refill it every three to four WEEKS. Let me repeat that: I use it every day and I refill it only every 2-3 WEEKS. I wish I bought one of these 10 years ago instead of pissing away money on one Colibri after another. In fact, if I ever see someone who works for Colibri I'm punching him in the balls.

Colibri is absolute garbage. If anyone owns a Colibri and it has functioned for more than a month then Jesus really loves you. One literally blew up in my face. My local B&M stopped carrying them because of all the dissatisfied customers and is now steering people toward the IM Corona stuff and Xikar. True story: a few weeks ago, a buddy of mine bought a box of cigars and his tobacconist gave him a brand new Colibri torch just to get rid of it -- it stopped working after lighting one single cigar. I was there when it happened.

Xikar stuff is OK. My Xikar torch was $30 and worked well for about a year; it finally crapped out but it will be replaced under the lifetime warranty. Only problem: the tanks only hold enough fuel to light 1-2 cigars. Pass it around on the golf course and you're out of fluid by the second hole. Which is why I started using this outside instead:

http://www.rockyscigars.com/catalog.asp?prodid=523054&showprevnext=1

It ain't pretty but the tank holds a lot of fluid and it has been dead-reliable for about a year now.

The new Zippo Blu torch lighters look very promising but I haven't tried one yet.

Once again -- if you believe only one thing I say in your entire lifetime, let it be this: avoid Colibri.

ST Dupont XTend. Assuming that you are responsible for your posessions, you are only going to buy a lighter once, so make it the best.

I have had loads of experience with this lighter, and it has never failed me. I personally like the single flame the best, as it offers a little less heat and far more control, but the number of burners is a personal preference. They can be found at the ST Dupont website for $135 plus shipping. I have priced them between $165 and $200 on retail.

Make sure you let us know what you get!

I am using a Colibri Quantum lighter. I've had it for about 2 months and I don't have any problems to report as of now.

Off topic: the story behind this lighter is actually kind of funny. The retail price for this lighter is $49.95. I was a little hesitant to buy a lighter that expensive at the time. The lady who was working incorrectly told me that it was $39.95. She then realized her mistake, but had to give it to me at that price. I did not hesitate to take advantage of the mistake and bought it right away.

totally concur...

have 10-15 lighters in my collection and always said...st dupont = too expensive...

$150.00(for an xtend) is pricey bit it is by far the best lighter i have used...

especially in "no smoke indoor" california

i would love to spend 5 minutes with a fine cedar spill or a fancy double flamer...
but seeing how outdoors (30 ft from buildings) is the only place i can smoke - the xtend is boss...

puts out an excellent flame and ergo - your thumb is nowhere near the flame...

only draw back is - is that it is not a travel lighter meaning wouldnt want to get it confiscated on a plane -

when i do travel i take my trusty zippo...

I have 2 Nibo lighters - a 2 burner and a 3 burner. I got them cheap in an eBay auction (1.99 each) and they are fine.

I have a Lotus that looks nice and works good, too.

I like matches if there is no wind.

I just received my first real lighter -- Colibri Figurado (Quantum - Firestone) lighter free with a bundle of Jose de Gener Hoya de Monterrey cigars from JR. It feels great -- good heft and smooth texture with silver and black colors. Will have to see if delivery is as good as looks.

Usually, I use wooden matches or barbecue lighter on cedar strips.

Man, I just read EC's post. Well, I know Jesus loves me, but that's a pretty strong pronouncement. 30 days and counting, I guess ;-)
