hey, so I've had a wine fridge set up and running for roughly the past 3 months if not a little longer, so I figure I might as well share what has worked for me.
I got mine on overstock, it was this incredibly kick ass deal, 75 bucks shipped 28 bottle wine fridge, in retrospect I should have gotten 2. Unless you get a giant 40 or 50 bottle one I'd say don't waste the money on the cigar oasis, I've had a steady rh for the last month and a half, I haven't had to add any water at all and that's with beads. Also I agree that you don't need to line it with spanish cedar, while looking nice, it's a little over-kill, I just picked up a couple trays for my singles, and other than that I pretty much buy full boxes so that accounts for more than enough spanish cedar right there. The fridge was hands down the best cigar related purchase I ever made, but I'm guessing with the people posting in this thread I'm pretty much just preaching to the choir.

Humi projects like this are fun to get creative with. You can do what you want, and make it however you want. Covering the inside in Sp Cedar would look pretty good.. those pictures look good as well.. I havent had any experience here, but it sounds like a great idea. good luck guys
I have used the Cigar Oasis before, and its a great product. set it, and no worries.. i always kept the one I had at 66%-67%, but to each his own

great ideas everyone! I think wine cooler is the direction that I will go in when I decide to get bigger humidor. Plus I can save loads of money specially with a deal like the one on overstock. With that money I of course could get more cigars

Home Depot had a special on a 50 bottle cooler. $250. I got this a couple months ago. I put my 300ct humi in the cooler as the top two shelves are the wife's wines.
My humi fits perfectly in the bottom. I actually had to remove the cigar oasis as my humidity was getting above 70%. I'm now looking to add beads to bring the humidity down.
I remember reading somewhere the wine coolers add humidity instead of sucking it out in order to keep the corks fresh and prevent them from drying out. Anyone looking to purchase a cigar oasis may want to hold off on the purchase and get a bigger cooler

Well, larger coolers for room-sized wine cellars can include a humidifier, but these smaller appliance units (at least the ones being discussed here) definitely do not add humidity. There is always going to be some humidity loss due to condensation on the cold-plate of the thermo-electric device. But where you live will affect your humidifier requirements for sure. I live in Colorado, and our air will rip every last drop of water out of a cigar if you give it a chance, and it will do it before you can say "Oh crap, I forgot to put water in my humidifier!"

I'm in S. Florida. When I leave the humi out of the cooler, even for a few hours, the humidity drops to the 60's. I put it back in the cooler and it immediately jumps to 70's.
I'm not exactly using the scientific method here, so there may be other variables causing the humidity to rise in the cooler, but I can't think of one. Just observation. In the cooler, humidity increases. Out of cooler, it decreases. I've tried with the humi open inside and out. And closed inside and out. The results are the same. Guess I have the magic cooler
Now to find that stupid unscented kitty litter. Every store around me has the little blue crystals in there as well.

I failed to mention that I use a 1/2 lb. of beads as well and it does the job for me. Whatever floats the boat!
1/2 lb of 65% beads in mine also...works great.. Got mine a year ago at Target..Vinotemp 28 bottle capacity..holds approx 18-25 boxes depending on how you stack..best thing i have bought in a long time...

Mine is awesome, it is rock steady at 64f/64-65%rh and it is completely self propelled since I re routed the condensation from the drain into the beads. I have not added a drop of water in five months. It is just the ticket here in FL.
well i would have to say that the spanish cedar helps maintain the humidity... i have a 30 bottle unit with a pound of 70 hearth felt beads and when i added the boxes of cedar i was able to maintain a constant rh of 69. i would would like it to be at say 65 so I'mm experimenting with it. but i have to say it has saved my day. I can now order boxes of smokes and have a place to store them.

Anyone started there wine cooler humi yet? I am very interested in seeing some result pictures, this is a great idea. I have been thinking, I might put one in my office when I return. I have always smoked them at 65/65.. it is where cubans need to be. Having it set at 65 degrees is huge.
