Thanks yahhn.

I'm not at home, but I will chime in when I get there (if that EVER HAPPENS) - I got fed up with the condensation issue in my Wine Enthusiast cooler, so I built an active recycler that is stabilized at 65% (beads) which puts the run-off right back into the air. Installing switched 12v/5v (see my post above)has opened up all kinds of opportunities, I highly recommend it.

It works perfectly and it has solved my issues completely. My ex-girlfriend is taking care of my cats, eating my expensive cheeses (and god knows what else), and checking in on it for me - so far it is perfectly stable.

I'd be interested in some more updates from you guys as to how things are going!

I'll probably just get one and put my humidor in there with it. Should be fine and it's a heck of a lot easier.

I've been waiting for this Target sale for quite some time now. I don't like it how the coldest part of my home can reach 80 degrees a few days in the year. So anyways, I went down to my local target and picked one of these bad boys up, squeezed into my little bimmer, carried it up the steps to my condo, opened the box, removed the top piece of packing foam, and there it was: shipping damage right on the side of the thing. Time to do it all over again...

apparently thats a problem with these units and target. I've read lots of complaints due to this. I recommend inspecting it at the store.

Just picked up mine and I have cleaned it out with baking soda and hot water. I'm going to be letting it sit for a day and then clean it again. Then start putting some spanish cedar in it to season it.

How about some updated pictures of all the guys that have made a wineador and what the finished product looks like now?

Hey everyone, I have had my cooler for a few weeks but haven't been able to put it into use. At this point, I am still having a huge problem getting the plastic smell out of this thing. So far, I have tried:

* Leaving the door open for 6 straight days (while unplugged)
* Scrubbing the inside with warm water and baking soda
* Scrubbing the inside with warm water and dish soap
* Placing a box of baking soda inside and keeping the door closed and open
* Leaving the door open for 2 hours at a time while plugged in
* Placing multiple used, cedar cigar boxes inside and closing the door

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Have you tried using multiple cedar planks? They are way more potent than a few cigar boxes. I have a vino and didn't scrub it with baking soda. I just put in about 12 spanish cedar planks and within 2 days when I opened the door it smelled like an all-wood humidor. I would try that.

Place it outside in direct sunlight and let it bake a little, that should help the degassing process. Beware though, the plastic is thin and it can gain boils, so keep a careful eye on it. Thats what worked for me.

Ditto...exactly what I did Graham, and it worked for me as well...

I bite the bullet, despite missing the sale (FYI The Customer Service desk at my Target told me they honor sale prices into the week after it ends - wish I had gone when I first thought about it instead of waiting a week!). Holding nicely at 68 degrees. I just took it out of the box and ran it 24 hours and the plastic smell was gone. It's almost full of cigars and some cedar and working like a champ. Glad I grabbed one, finally!

your post hurts my eyes.

I believe the way that most electro-cooled fridges work is that they pretty much suck air in from the outside, push it through cooled coils, and then push air inside. So, I don't see why turning the AC on would make your temp go up. In fact, my cooler says that the highest recommended temperature for proper function is 85.

Cool Louie B, are you referring to temperature or humidity?

Ahh... that might help explain things. If its the humidity that's fluctuating, then it might be due to the fact that the air that is being pushed into the unit is cooler when the AC is on.

If it's the temp, then it's not a huge problem...65-67 degrees is just fine, though 57 may be too cold. If your humidity is that low then it's a problem...IMO 62-67 RH is ideal...

I finally got the smell out of mine and got the boxes loaded up. The only thing that I can say is, I can't believe I'm out of room already!

Looking good man! Have you had any condesation runoff and if so, what have you done about it? Also, what kind of humidification are you using and is it doing the job?
