For all you Cali smokers out there I just want to help get the word out about the upcoming (November) California Tobacco Tax Act 2006. We, as a community under siege, need to ensure we don't sit idly by as others decide how we live our lives or spend our free time. Though disguised as an initiative promoting child healthcare, the California Tobacco Tax Act of 2006 is nothing more than a greedy cash grab. As stated by the American Lung Association in a policy paper, "The proposed tobacco tax would also "backfill" the Proposition 10 Children and Families Commision Fund, making up for reduced revenues caused by the decline in tobacco consumption" So they didn't get enough money from us the first time around now they're back for more. Don't let them continue to infringe on our way of life! Get out and vote! I am seriously concerned this initiative will pass. I realize there is still sometime before November but it is creeping up on us quickly and I have yet to hear any serious opposition to this proposed law. If anyone is aware of any organized opposition to this new law please inform me of it, I would like to do what I can to help ensure this law does not pass.
As an east coaster I hope all your fellow Californians band together and defeat this proposition. I was in Palm Desert last summer and wanted a nice smoke on an outside patio at the resort. My group and I had to walk so far away we finished our beers before reaching the table and the waitstaff seldom came that far out. that said it was beautiful sitting on a balcony looking out on the mountains in the distance at night. Fight the Good Fight!
Good people sleep at night knowing there are rough men ready to do violence on their behalf
