As I have read a lot of you smoke in the car on the way home from work. Since it is starting to get to cold out to smoke anymore I was thinking of bringing a smoke for the way home. I have a 45 minute ride so might as well make the most of it. Do I have to bring the stick inside with me to work since it will be cold in the car? Will it hurt if I leave it inside? Any suggestions will be takin.....thanks

Cold wont affect your cigar very much, but it would definitely be safer if you took it with you and kept it in a case or tube...

I would take it inside as that much of a change in temperature is a no-no for sure.

Related to smoking in the car - In the 10 years I have been smoking cigars, I have never smoked in my car. I believe that is going to change this winter.

What is the best way to keep the car from smelling too smokey for when my wife and children will be in the car with me? (Not at the same time.)

I do know not to leave the finished cigar in the ashtray, but do any of you use any special air purifiers or have any other suggestions?

1. Crack the sunroof or a window while smoking. That eliminates 90% of the smoke right there. Don't blow smoke onto any cloth surfaces -- try to blow it out the window or toward the sunroof. You don't have to stick your face right next to the open window or roof -- just blow in that direction and it will all get sucked out. (Sorry of there was a lot of blowing and sucking talk in that last paragraph but it would be inaccurate to say "inhale" and "exhale" since cigar smokers technically do neither.)

2. Vacuum your cloth upholstery weekly with a brush.

3. Empty your ash tray every day and never, ever leave butts in there, even for a few hours.

4. Right before you get home, when you're done smoking, open all the windows while you're driving even if it's just for a few seconds to clear the air. It's not fun when it's cold out but it does the trick.

5. Febreeze if 1-4 fail.

For what it's worth, Csonka makes an air purifier that plugs into your car. I've heard good things about them but do not own one. You can find them on most any online cigar site. Hope that helps.

Tried one. I had high hopes but it did absolutely nothing except generate harmful ozone.

I just put all the windows down and open the sun roof. When I get home I still leave the windows down

There is a 5, 15, 30, and 50 cigar version. I have a 30 and a 50, so whenever I go on a trip (plane/car) I am able to bring along my favorites.

Fairly inexpensive, lifetime warranty, and works like a charm. Between my smoke buddies we have 20+ X-treme's in use.

If I have one of those travel humi's is it ok if I leave them in the car?

I have one too and recently I had a problem with cigars unravelling, I know they were good because their brothers at home in the humidor were fine. I asked here and was told I should ot leave them in the car where they can freeze then try to smoke them when they thaw.

I think you have the same problem in NJ as here in CT.

I think cracking the window and not leaving it in the ashtray are the most sound ideas for basics. For the storage idea, could you leave one in the tube in your pocket. It wouldn't experience a vast tempt change if it was on your person. I'm glad others smoke in their cars.

This is critical: if at all possible, have the ventilation shut down completely (except, of course, for the open windows.) That smoke gets in the heater/AC vents and it's all over. Your car will smell like my grandpa's '66 Impala.

I used to smoke in the car. You need to use Febreze on the upholstery and header and a spray of Lysol into the AC helps too.

Yes crack a window and much of the smoke will go out. Do not use the car ashtray but get one that fits into the drink holder and take it out and wash it.

Do not leave your cigars in a cold car as the sudden temperature change will cause the cigars to burst. In fact, try to light up just before you go outside and warm your car up asap.

Remember, smoking in a confined space will make your clothing smell like smoke so don't smoke on the way to work, just on the way home.

Write the car off for any re-sale to non-smokers. Anyone who does not smoke will smell it immediately. It is one of the downsides to smoking cigars. A few weeks ago I went to the local B&M. They were closing before I could finish my cigar. I jumped in my truck which has never had a smoke in it. I never once let the cigar come inside the truck as I held it outside the window while I drove about 1/2 mile down the road to a friends restaurant to finish it. To this day I can still smell the cigar when I get in the truck. You can mask it a little with febreeze and such but never get rid of it.
