Hi guys, I'm new to the cigar world and am wondering what is meant by "putting cigars to sleep" for a while?

I've heard this often in posts and am curios as to what it means.

The cigars are either killed or tucked under tiny little blankets in the humidor

I am confused. I thought it meant to take them to a vets office and have a lethal injection of beatle larve eggs injected under the wrapper. Confused

LOL.

Some cigars, especially Cubans do better if they are left to age for a few years.

Others, like many Dominicans, Nicaraguans and Hondurans are fine to smoke right out of the box as aging them will do little to improve the flavors.

If you have the time and the space, place some cigars in the back of the cabinet and put a date on them. leave them for 2-3 years and try them. It's best to take notes before and after.

To compliment Doc's post, it helps if you try a stick or two shortly after the purchase to get a "baseline" of what they taste like. If you don't, it's difficult to determine if letting them rest has made a change.

Some cigars like PSD$ are known to smoke terrifically ROTT (right off the truck)/without any age. If you have little willpower like some of us, they're a good bet.

Who's got 2 thumbs and loves cigars?

I thought it meant to put them back for a while. Don't smoke them right away.

I have many boxes of NC's and CC's sleeping right now. It's just a pain in the butt to have to tiptoe around my own house all the time.
