There is one thing that I am quite intrigued by that I never see this cigar mentioned in Todays Smoke or the other areas on this site. It was only a few years ago that Gloria Cubana was all over the place.

You see the Serie R mentioned at times but I know what you mean. I enjoy the corona gorda but haven't puchased any in a while. I'll probably have to get a box soon. To me it's always a consistant med bodied cigar a good go to cigar. Now I have to see what I have in the humidor.

I used to enjoy LGC back in the 1990's but they changed. It may have been because of the BOOM or it may just have been quality, but they are not the same cigar.
I have a LGC from Cuba in my humidor, I may have to smoke it one of these days.

I agree 100% with Doc...I used to love La Glorias back in the early 1990s when they were 100% Miami made. Then they started making them in the DR and quality dipped. Then quality came back up again but they were never the same -- I know because I still have a few 15-year-old La Glorias in my humi and smoked one recently.
The Serie R is a big, fat, mediocre bust. And those $15 things in the limited edition humidors are bland and one-dimensional for the money...a friend gifted me one a month or so ago and it left me cold.
Don Pepin Garcia is the new La Gloria Cubana as far as I'm concerned.
I used to love the Series R #4, but I haven;t had any LGC in about 3 years. So is the general opinion that the line has declined in quality, but the series R is still decent?

one can imagine w/ general taking over and Ernesto's hand a bit removed that qaulity could sag a little....to me there is nothing like a serie R. I find excellent consistency in them,a bit bias of course. The #6 maduros represent the best and worst times in my life over the past five years

Is the Don Pepin Garcia a specific type of Don Pepin ... or is the brand name Don Garcia just an abbreviation of the Don Garcia Pepin?
(The reason I ask is that I've seen Don Pepin all over the internet, but Don Pepin Garcia only at Holts.)

Don Pepin Garcia is the brand name for the whole line but there are already two line extensions I know of: one if the Serie JJ (white band) and there is the Havana (I think) which carries a black band and is made in Nicaragua. And of course, the original DPG has a blue band. I've tried the Serie JJ and it is a slightly smoother, more refined blend while the Havana is a bit bolder but IMO not as well made or complex as the blue label. All DPGs need considerable age to be enjoyed at their best -- the ones I bought last month were stamped with a box date of Jan 07 -- meaning 0 months of box age!!! (And they were still great.)
