Peterson Gran Reserva Churchill is becoming my goto smoke. There has not been much on this cigar other than its rating. Its $50 a box at Holts, does anyone else have an opinion.
Just curious.

Never had one but got good ratings. My friend has a peterson pipe and that's good. Though it has nothing to do with the cigars.
point is, I have never had one but have wanted to. Now that the prices are really low, at a few online shops. I may have to remedy that. Though I would like to try a single first.
hopefully more people will indulge us with what they have to say.
I just like cigars, is that ok?

I received a Peterson Gran Reserva in a sampler I bought a while back. I remember the smoke was very good. Been thinking about pulling the trigger on getting a box of these. I've seen them all over the net for cheap prices these days for a box. I believe I read somewhere that the line has been discontinued and they are no longer going to make them.
I've smoked 2 boxes over the last couple of months. They are well constructed, Tastes include Spice, Cinnimin, Cream, and everthing you expect from a fine stick.
The longer the age in my humidor the better they get.

This is a closeout. I talked to an Ashton rep the other day and he said supplies are starting to dry up so if you like them, get 'em while they last because it won't be much longer. I happen to like them very much. The Cameroon wrapper is one of the nicest I've seen this side of the Ashton Heritage Puro Sol. A shame they priced the cigar just a buck or two too high.
I bought a fiver of these based on the 90+ rating and the fine marketing done by CI. Frankly, I expected much more from a 90+ rated cigar, even at such a reasonable price. It looked pretty. However, I found it to be rather bland and stale. The burn was also slower than I like. The smoke also seemed to have a stronger than usual ammonia odor to it as well, although that might become more minimal with some aging.

Do the bands on your Peterson's say 'Dublin' on the back of them? I bought a couple of the Gran Reserva Toro's in Peterson's shop here in Dublin a few months ago, haven't tried them yet. Very expensive here, around $20 a stick, mostly tax. It's ironoc, these cigars were produced for Peterson's, originally an Irish company, based in Dublin, by Ashton, yet they are 10 times the price here compared to the US. If an American store would ship to Ireland, I'd buy a box, if only for sentimental reasons with the Dublin connection.

They weren't really produced for Peterson's. Ashton is the U.S. distributor for Peterson pipes and the brand was aimed at the American market. There was probably a licensing agreement or something along those lines but Ashton was the 'owner' of the brand on paper. As far as I know, the only distribution it had outside of the U.S. was in Ireland. The cigars you smoked had a long trip...rolled and packed by an Altadis factory in Honduras, shipped to the Philly, PA suburbs, then out to the store you bought them at. Add in VAT and other taxes and...ouch.
Judging by your description you smoked what I smoked. I thought they were a lovely cigar and I grabbed a box on closeout for $60 USD. It's a nice, light, woody and slightly floral blend that's kind of the cigar equivalent to a cup of tea as opposed to coffee.

Good Call, I'm a serious tea drinker, makes sense.

Jamal Ginsberg just called me from Mahognay...no Opus X to speak of but plenty of Petersons so he's picking me up another box along with some of those Tatuaje Havana Cazadores that Suckling is raving about. I like the RyJ Caz so these might be up my alley.
got a to- fer last summer at ci for 49.95 very nice cigar. peterson's is an old pipe company; if i remember right ashton made them for them well worth the money

Extensioncord, first off Holt's did not have any Tatuaje Havana Cazadores. I did get you the Peterson's, but I had to get the Belicoso didn't have any Toro's out, but had tons of other sizes. May be off to Pitt this w/e so if I don't see you I'll get them to you on Monday. Just for everyone else on the forum the beli plus tax comes to 70 bucks and the other sizes are cheaper, can't beat that.
