First, I have no-idea how I got on their list, never bought anything there etc. Guess I'm getting these catalogs for life and probably thereafter.
Second, the catalog is more high-end and is actually interesting to browse, especially the “Luxury Certified Vintage” section (taken with a grain of salt).
I haven’t compared prices yet though…

I guess they're changing with the times. It used to be JR would actually seem to discourage customers from paying a lot for a cigar.
JR gets a bad rap these days from hardcore cigar guys because they don't sell the boutique stuff but for the average smoker their selection and service are just fine. Their shipping charges have always been very fair and they handle returns for almost any reason very efficiently.
At one time, before there were so many unique and interesting brands, I used to smoke their brands all the time. The Special Jamaican was a good mild cigar at a giveaway price and the JR Ultimate has always been a great alternative to Punch and Hoyo.
Interesting Steve, I also got a JR catelogue in the mail despite having never ordered from them. WTF??! Maybe another online source sold us out? I've only ordered from CI, New Havana Cigars, and cheaphumidors before.
My brother-in-law put me on their mailing list years agao, thinking he was doing me a favor. I never bought anything from them but the catalogs made for some good bathroom reading. A few years ago, they sent me a notice that I would shortly receive my last catalog (presumably because I never bought anything). I wouldn't mind getting the JR catalog (or any cigar catalog) because the reading materials in the bathroom are getting kinda old. I get Holt's and Famous Smoke Shop because I buy from both but I have noticed a trend in both of these catalogs - there now seems to be an almost inexhaustible supply of cigars that sell for under $2 a stick and which I have never heard of. Anybody else notice this?
A friend of mine who is in the cigar business was able to tour their factory and quickly realized that the majority of the cigar bands that he had never heard of were produced by JR themselves. They just slap on different bands post production.

I alternate ordering from JR and Famous-smoke. I have always gotten great service and quality from both. I have been through the return experience once with each and both offered great customer service. I got my JR catalog last week and ordered 2 5-packs of RyJ Reserve Maduro and got the free lighter.
If you have not ordered from them, give them a shot if you find something you like for a good price. They are great to do business with.
Warm Texas evening, comfy chair on the deck, 3 fingers of bourbon, dog at my feet, and a good cigar. It doesn't get any better!
I've only made a few orders from JR's, most recently a gift certificate that my Mom wanted to give a friend of hers that goes to the JR store in Whippany.
Had a good customer service experience when they sent the gift certificate but forgot to include it within the card they sent. Immediately they sent the gift certificate and apologized. I also ordered the RP Double Maduro from them and it came in perfect condition.
