Hi Everyone: The time is coming for me to purchase a new, larger humidor. The one I have now has done a great job, but size is becoming an issue and I'm going to need more space rather soon. I've been looking around for the past month and a half at different choices, but I wanted to check with everyone here before a purchase is made because I'm sure you'll have better advice than what I'm working with right now.

I'm between two right now:
Humidor 1

Humidor 2

Notwithstanding aesthetic issues, which is the better humidor in your opinion from a quality standpoint? I understand some people have trouble maintaining proper humidity with "drawed" humidors because the draws need extra space to slide, but I'm also skeptical of the integrity of the seal around the glass top on the first option.

Are there any other similarly priced humidors anyone knows of that might be a better alternative than these two?

Thanks a lot and I appreciate any input.

I bought the humidor 2 from your list a month or so ago (it's called the Ravello model at cheaphumidors (listed at the same price by the way). Overall I have been pleased with it. Did experience a chemical (glue?) odor at first that I think came from the dividers and/or tray. Ended up sanding the dividers/tray a bit and letting them sit out in the sun for a day which ended my odor problem.

Have been using 4 69% boveda packs in it which seems to maintain a fairly consistent humidity level from 67 to 69%.

Been thinking I need to move it to the basement for the summer where the temp is a bit lower. Wife likes the way it looks and wants me to keep it upstairs.

I have a glass top and I feel as long as you get a decent one (like the one you've shown) you won't have any seal issues. I also like the fact that I can daily keep an eye on my selection/humidity/etc. w/o opening the lid. Also it makes for a nice conversation piece if a visitor just happens to walk by it.

However, the second one holds 2x as many...you've seen how size can become an issue (enough about me) but if you're upgrading you might argue that you might as well get the bigger one, b/c that's the reason you're buying a new one anyhow.

Construction wise they are both about the same--the second has kiln-dried spanish cedar which is a plus...but not a deal breaker for the first one..

Toughy. I would recommend getting one of their Humi-Care containers though they work great.

Go with the Il Duomo.

Thanks a lot for all of the input. Because of my circumstances (splitting my time between home and law school), I think the smaller humidor will work out just fine. Travel becomes little trickier when I leave for home over breaks and have to bring the humidor with me - so having the larger humidor might not have been the better choice with that in mind.

I'll be placing the order later on today. Again, thanks for the help. . . .

Before reading about your nomadic tendencies, I was going to recommend the post below as you can get a decent wine coolerdor for a little more than the second humi. It would keep your smokes at a good temperature and RH.

I purchased the second humi on your list for a friend and he loves it. I have a slightly larger treasure dome one that claims to hold 300 cigars(200-250 is more reasonable) and I've taken it on trips.

I went to a conference last week and brought the whole humi. I put it in the jacket closet in the hotel room. An a/c vent was perfectly situated right next to the shelf at the top of the closet which kept the humi at 68 degrees. They're really not that heavy.

I have the second choice and it is packed to the gills, but is easy to transport. I have to move it to the kitchen from the living room every now and again when the wifey is cleaning. It is not that heavy and would fit in the car easily. Good luck with whichever one you go with! By the way only two of the drawers work and they are not for cigars, so the seal is not an issue with the drawers.

I would highly recommend taking a look at this Savoy from eLighters.com

Savoy Large Bubinga

It is on sale for $119 which is a great buy. The Savoy humidors are a very nice step up from the "generic" ones that are sold at many different stores online.

Just my 2 cents.

Warm Texas evening, comfy chair on the deck, 3 fingers of Wild Turkey, dog at my feet, and a good cigar. It doesn't get any better!
