I have a question for all those that go to cigar lounges or are members of one. My job keeps me on the road the entire day. Sometimes when it rains or gets too cold, I don't smoke since I don't smoke in my house.
However, I pass many cigar stores that have lounges to smoke in. Would it be in bad taste to bring my own cigars with me since I like to age them a bit after buying them in the store? Of course, I would buy a cigar or two from them, but I would smoke one of the ones I carried with me.
Is this something I shouldn't do or would shop owners care at all since I would still be buying to replace the one or two that I carried with me?

Yes it is very bad taste to bring your own. How do you think the proprietor the establishment pays for the controlled climate for you to smoke in? You don't take food to a restaurant do you?

there are a couple thoughts I would like to add. First, do you purchase cigars at that lounge? If so, do you simply walk in, make your purchases and leave? Do you chat?
I smoke at the lounge here, but purchase the bulk of my smokes at a neighboring shop. The prices are simply better. I NEVER smoke at the lounge without buying SOMETHING, but I also bring my own cigars should that be what I want to smoke. I think the point is that you don't want to be a jerk and use the space simply as your personal smoking area, but rather to enjoy the company of the people while showing respect for the establishment and sharing your love of cigars.

I would never consider using the lounge unless I bought something from them. However, that may not be the cigar I want to smoke at the moment. For example: I might go in and purchase one or two RP 1992's, but might want to smoke the Cohiba that's in my travel case that I have with me. What would one do in that instance?

I've purchased from them before and I've always made conversation. It's a new shop near me and I've talked to the person behind the counter about how nice it is to have someplace to smoke 5 mis from my house in case it's raining or about the SCHIP bill...something they didn't know anything about (their main business is a bakery and the cigar shop is more of a hobby/interest to them), etc...
It's a very slow store since it is new and, unless you know the area, you would drive right by it without even noticing it. Even when I went in there just to see it, I made it a point to buy a couple of sticks. Like I said, I would never consider using a lounge without making a purchase unless I was invited to do so.

as long as you buy something at the same time you plan to sit and smoke, your good.... the lounge part is for coustomers, and if you just made a purchase, that means you, and no one will say anything if you light up something else....

I would say to simply ask permission to smoke your own cigar. If you're on good terms, you buy from them, and you remove the band, they might say yes. Just talk to them and see what them say.
Oh, wait, I forgor that you're from Long Island. What I meant to say is twalk to them and see what they say. Maybe buy a cup of couufee for the owner or something and maybe a treat to give to his dwog .

Couffee? Dwog??? Don't know what those are. I know what cawfee and a Dawg (not to be confused with someone is a rap stars entorage) are, but never heard of the other two.

Eh, when I hear it, it sound more like dwog, but I'm sure people say it differently.

I don't really understand the "remove the band" comments, unless they to competitive house brands- so I beseech someone to explain. I smoke for 20 min. or so and then remove the band no matter where I am smoking.
I think we see a pretty good trend. The whole point is that you do not want to be seen as rude or inconsiderate, so simply purchase something from them- whatever it is. If they are a bakery, buy a pastry on your way out. If they carry an intriguing brand in their humi, pick up one or two. I feel that you are ESPECIALLY in the clear if you bring something to smoke that the shop/lounge does not carry. I do it in my lounge, and Candice never has a problem. Hell, she even asks us to comment on new or different smokes to see if it is something she would like to stock so we don't have to purchase elsewhere!

Then again, there are plenty of places that will charge you a cover for smoking your own...Would you pay the cover to smoke your own? I would, only to clear out my humi ;]

Bear,
I just do not smoke any of my cigars in public with bands on.
As for my comment up to EVP, if he had removed the bands and purchased at the store, then while he is enjoying them, who would be able to say something silly like "OMG, they sell Cubans here?!?!?"
The bottom line, is be a customer to use thier lounge.

As for me, I would usually buy both the drink and the smoke in the establishment rather than bring my own. Somehow I feel that's a proper thing to do. Though I never asked them if it's OK to bring my own.
