Tonight, I bought a different type of apple pie from our local gourmet type market. A Vermont Mystic Pie Company Apple Pie.

After reading the directions, the "right" side of the box read the following:

" A Balanced Recipe for Everyone

A great tasting pie relies on the right balance of ingredients. The same is true for many things in life. Too much of one thing and not enough of another can upset the apple cart. The pie chart below represents the money that congress voted to spend last year. For the same amount of money that is currently spent on 15% of the Pentagon budget, we could do ALL of the following: rebuild our public schools, retrain laid off workers, begin national debt reduction, provide healther care and Head Start for every child in our country who needs it, feed every starving child in the worlds poorest nations and, decrease our dependence on foreign oil. 10% of our priofits go to helping get the recipe right"

This will be the LAST pie I buy from these wackos.

And if the Pentagon didn't get funded we could all stay home, be wealthy, eat rainbow stew, sing kumbaya, and make babies that never got sick.

Don't read the box, just cook and eat this pie. It's the best damn apple pie you can buy short of having a baker make it for you.

One of the founders of Ben & Jerry's ice cream is a strong advocate of the same type of philosophy...the "here's what you could do with defense money," approach...and damn is that ice cream good...

Maybe there is some bizarre connection between defense spending and tasty desserts? Is Sara Lee a war hawk?
