After not smoking hardly anything for some time, I am using my three day weekend to go hard at it, and I hope I can push alot of old posts back with some new impressions.
I commited to the long haul last night by firing up an old favorite, the Hoyo Double Corona. Darker than a COnnecticut shade, with no apparent oils, this one didn't inspire much confidence, and perhaps it's a little young considering I still have a half box of 01's. But I am looking hard at smoking some of the cigars that will eventually lose their essence while letting some of the powerhouses age a bit.
This one was strong for this vitola, but was rich in nutty and cinammon flavors, wrapped around a core of toasty tobacco tones. The burn was not impressive, straight, but a little tough to keep lit. It had travelled dry in a cedar box on my holiday drive to NC, and stayed that way for a week before going back in the desktop for a day or so, so the wrapper/binder was moister than the filler. It lasted for almost two hours and for the first time ever, had me feeling a little nauseous at the last 1 1/2 inches. Surprising for an Hoyo, but I did not let it bother me much. If I had alot of these, I would wait a year for some marrying, but not too long, as these fade rather quickly IME. Nothing to write home about, but still a solid start to a weekend of habanos smoking. As the weekend progresses, I will ash a Cuaba Salamone, a 98 Punch Churcill, a 98 Sancho, a 98 Lancero, A 04 Monte #2, and maybe alot more.
I will report on any that blow my skirt up.

Nola, I'm still waiting for my cab of Hoyo DC's - DIC 03 to come around.
I'd have to agree that this batch is a bit fuller bodied than the 01's
and 02's I've had. When I first bought these at the local LCDH here in
Singapore, they were EMS wrappers which have now darkened to a chocolate
brown, with a little more oily sheen. However, the flavor has not evolved
much. Very slight floral sweetness and some spice, but still a bit of
harshness. Guess I'll have to wait a couple of years as some of the other
posters have suggested. Funny that the 01's and 02's seemed to blossom
a lot quicker into the complex light to medium bodied smokes that are just
bursting with a plethora of flavors.
