Had a heart attack in April 04 and found the pleasures of a good cigar (2 or 3 a week) by the 1st of May. It did wonders for my stress. anyway I just got my first taste of heaven... believe it or not it was a Partagas mini habana 4.25 X 24 or 26. Really sweet & tasty. Can't wait to taste a corona or Toro...I guess what I'm Looking for is a little advise on what to avoid or go for. Thanks

Never had one of those, but for a short smoke that's hand made, Partagas Shorts are good.

There is really no such thing as a Toro, per se, in Cuban cigars. The closest thing in regular production would be a Corona Gorda which is 5 5/8 x 46. There are many good ones to choose from...if you like them milder, the ERDM Gran Corona is excellent as is the Rafael Gonzalez Corona Extra. And you can never go wrong with an H.Upmann Mag 46. As for Coronas...you mentioned Partagas...IMO the Partagas Corona is amongst the best Havana has to offer. Other good ones are Quai d'Orsay Coronas and Sancho Panza Coronas. And although not technically a Corona (actually a Corona Grande, between a Corona and a Lonsdale), the Cohiba Siglo III is an incredibly complex medium-bodied gem. Bottom line, if you're new to Cuban cigars the best thing to do is try as many as you can and you'll discover which you like best. Your taste buds may vary from mine or from others. First and foremost, though, procuring a legit source is imperative. Good luck with your health.

People aren't smoking cigars to be trendy, cool or stylish. They're smoking cigars because they like them. Because they enjoy the experience. Because for about $5 they can spend an hour sampling one of life's greatest luxuries.

i haven't been here in a loooong while... it's changed a bit.
---------
sorry to hear about your heart attack. my dad died last year at the end of May after battling a lot of things...

anyway, to the point:
i have to disagree with the Mag46s, as i've had a number of them and they haven't done much for me and half have been plugged/unsmokeable.

your best bet is to research the reviews sections here or other cigar review sites like top 25 cigar and cigar reviews.

some other corona gordas i'd say to try are:
Juan Lopez seleccion #1
Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure #1
Punch Punch Punch
San Luis Rey Seria A

these are all mild to medium and are excellent cigars.

for the money, you can't go wrong with petit corona sizes, or tres petit coronas... they also offer a lot of "bang" for your buck, if you like powerful smokes.

so, do some research, read other peoples reviews who have had the cigar before and go from there.

and, they are very relaxing. it forces you to take time out of your day for you...
good luck

That must be really bad luck on your part. I've gone through many boxes of these so far and have yet to get a plugged stick. I smoke them so often, they are almost a daily smoke for me.

As with any stick, if you smoke them too early they will not do much. But usually mag46's are good fresh as well. I wouldn't give up on them yet. I didn't think that much of the first couple i had either.

I have also found the Mag 46's to be very consistent. Never had a bad one & what's with the top 25 cigar reviews (all non Cuban cigars)?

The Mag 56 is one of my faves. I've bought MANY cabs of these over the years.

I find them the most consistently well rolled cigars coming out of Cuba. Never a tight draw etc.

then i guess it's just severely bad luck on my part. i still have two that i've clipped but couldn't draw on sitting in my humidor. i've had a couple more that i almost hurt myself trying to draw on... and a couple more that drew well, but the flavor was not for me.
yes, they were aged, yes, they were real, my humi sits nicely at 65 and 65...

i've had them in different countries as well, always the same thing...

but that's alright, just leaves more for you guys. i'll take a punch-punch over it any day.

I find it really hard to believe that you smoked 46's that were even close to properly stored...assuming what you smoked were real. I've never heard of any such problems with the 46's from anyone I know. Hell I've never even heard of a whole plugged box of crappy NC's. It's too bad, since the 46 is a far better smoke than punch punch.
