My latest purchase has been a cab of Partagas Shorts (URL Sep01). I've smoked approximately a dozen so far and find these failing my expectations. The cigars are rolled very well and most have had a perfect draw, but its the flavor that somehow seems to be lacking. They're mild and somewhat muted. They have the unmistakable habano taste, but much milder than the Partagas PC which I remember as having a sweet, buttery flavor to them.

So out of curiousity I go to the Habano site and look up the Partagas. It says this brand is known for its fragrance and half-strong flavor. I didn't know that. No wonder I feel like lighting another as soon as I put the first one down.

I know this vitola is a favorite of many here, but I find other minutos like the RASCC and Boli Corona Junior more pleasing to my palate. Still, a good cigar.

H.A., I think that when you get rave reviews on this cigar, they are from people who keep ALOT on hand and never really smoke one that is not at it's prime, or from people who like em young. I can tell you from what little experience I have with them that they completely open up after one, and preferably 2+ years. I can't explain that date and that flavor...I love mine from that year.

It may be a tall task for me, but I'll see if I can keep some around for at least eight months in my humidor. If there's a noticable change, I'll be sure to post about it.

Hard Ash, I have the same box code as you. I would not call them mild, but they are rather mellow for a Short. I also have a cab from April 2004 & those are quite strong and flavorful. My conclusion would be to smoke these young. Any other opinions?

It must be something Freudian. In the 1980's, as an avid skier, there was a mantra: short skiis suck. 20+ years later, I haven't found a satisfying itsy, bitsy, teensy, weensy, itty, bitty, little cigar that blows wind up my skirt. Once in a while, a boli pc (that's a secret confession...don't tell anyone), but if I'm going to smoke a cigar, I'm going to smoke A CIGAR. I've never felt a 'need' for a quick 'fix' that would be satisfied by a small cigar like a tpc or pc or even any other mareva/corona. Under the circumstances, I reach for a robusto or a corona gorda. Freudian. Definitely Freudian.

I agree with Bass Man. The younger the better.
