Here's the deal..you can buy a box of 08-09 cuban's for 400. Let's say the same box is for sale at another source from 02-04..what would you think a fair price would be? Let's forget about el's and re's because they are limited and when they are done that's basically it...to me ,i get excited when i find a box from 04-06 ..thinking that they have sat for a while and will need less aging..so i would happily pay more..question is what is considered fair?

Older is not necessarily better. A couple examples. IMHO, 04 was a weak year. I won't buy any regular production from 04. Also, there's a lot of 98-01 around that pretty cheap but is either poorly stored & dried out, or has poor draws.

I buy at LCDH and they have never charged me more for a box that is older. The question is if they have it in stock. The price should not change though. Unless if it is 15 or 20 years old.

Spring 01 to mid/late 03. Mid 06 through early 08 (haven't smoked enough cigars dated past spring of 08 to make a judgment).
04 was a decent year IMO, but not great. The one I don't care for in this decade is 05. Out of this decade (excluding 2000), 2005 is the year that I've had the most lackluster boxes from.
I would not pay a premium on any box of cigars unless it is at least 5 years old. And I'd only pay it then if it were a box that is hard to find with age (CoRo's, Monte 2's, RASS, etc.)...or if it is a cigar that has been discontinued (ERDM Gran Coronas, Ramon Allones 8-9-8, etc.). And I'd avoid grey market vendors for such purchases, as well.
Better beautiful than perfect

All cigars that I have smoked from 2001 have been atleast pretty good, most have been excellent. I haven't smoked a ton of cigars in each year since 2000. I haven't even smoked cigars from each year. Trini Reyes from 2005 are very good. RASS from 2006 are no so hot but 2008 RASS are really good. 2004 CoRo's are very good also.
Pricewise, it also depends on what you consider a premium too. For example, some vendors you can get a box of current production Esplendidos for around $440. Some sell the same product for almost $650 or better. There is a certain vendor with a good amount of older stock (5-10yrs old) that has 2002 Esplendidos for about $550. Would you consider that expensive or not? It's kind of depends on the prices you are used to buying at.
