Seems like every El I have bought is noticably darker than the normal version. is that basically what they boil down to? iA maduro version of the brand? the Piramides, Sublimes, Trinidads are all much darker than other vitolas of thier brand.

2 differences 1/ wrapper aged 2 years (i think) 2/ they use wrapper from the higher part of the plant, thus slightly more sun, thus slighly thicker and darker and more natural sugars. happy to be corrected if wrong

Darker, yes, but not consistently so.
And technically not maduro.

Exactly, the Cohiba Maduro 5 is the only Cuban maduro...

Wrappers on all ELs are aged for 2 years (BTW, since last year the binder and filler are aged that long too). Hence the somewhat darker color. But by no means maduro, as Osnat and flashman pointed out.

thanks guru's that clears things up. I just noticed how much darker they are and assumed they were using maduro style tobacco.
