I contacted habanos S.A. and this is what they told me (if I understood correctly)....you may send us a cigar and we could tell you if it was genuine by the tobacco, the taste and many other factors, but what we usually do is unravel the cigar to see what the counterfeiters are doing. The taste can be identified by an experienced person. If you are not sure, the quality and number of leaves in the blend will confirm. Knowing the vintage is important because blends have changed over time in each cigar but the amount of leaves in the blend will be consistent.

We cannot release any information about the blend but if a cigar you send us is genuine and it is from a box of others you may assume that the rest of them are real. Then you can carefully unravel one. Do not cut it open. put the leaves in a warm humid place to get them to settle so that you can lay them out to examine and see what they should look like, but most importantly smoke the rest of that box and become familiar with the taste so that next time you can just smoke the cigar to determine.
We have had complaints about authorized habanos stores in the past and if we can verify the complaint, the dealer will lose their account. Buying habanos and trying to import them into the US as you know is illegal. Most reputable habanos dealers will not ship to the US so you are searching for a dealer who is willing to act illegally for you. That would mean that you are looking for a dishonest business with integrity, No? This is your first and biggest problem.
If you have someone that is sending you real habanos know that at any given time your dishonest seller might start acting "dishonest". ...........

I'm just thinking outside the box but it might be a good idea to make a sticky for anyone who will sacrifice a stick for the good and welfare. Open one up, take good pictures of it and list what it is (not sources of origin) especially popular cigars that are most often faked. It would be very helpful to the unknowing and you would have less newbe questions about a cigar's authenticity they acquired. Not to mention it would be a weapon with the ongoing battle of counterfeits. When you educate the public better, it will help put these bastards out of business.

Great idea ryan, we will all get right on that. I just finished cutting open my last Cohiba Gran Reserva from the 2009 festival box. OK, so that was a real Cuban. I will post picts shortly.

Anyone know how to roll these cigars back-up?

Hey witches of ..., I don't even like to hold my own. Sometimes I use salad tongs. Now that I've sunk to the depths, I'll revaluate.

Ya smokem, when another man discusses your junk, I suspect he is used to smoking white owls.

If you buy a box of CCs, there is a code on the warranty seal that you can input on the Habanos SA website that will verify the authenticity of the box. Other than that, do your research and you will find a retailer who is trustworthy and you wont have problems with fakes. I joined this site in I think july, and spent that time until now researching retailers and sources, and I just now made my first purchase, and they are genuine... Anything Habanos SA or any authorized importer tells you will be strictly business.
