Trevor's website (good Trevor ) gives very good information on how many boxes of regional edition cigars are produced. It leads me to wonder whether anyone knows approximately how many cigars are produced for limited edition cigars? Does it mean a limited amount, or does it only mean for a limited time but do get produced in massive numbers like any other regular production?
I dont have any definate numbers but I believe that its more a time limitation than an outright limitation on units in prooduction. Take the 2008 EL's when they eventually appear on the shelves there will be no shortage of them for some time but eventually the production does run its course as they ramp up for the 2009 Els.
The Regionals are a differnt matter and are definately more limited production than the EL's.

According to the Top 25 Cigars of 2006 list, (published in '07), talking about the EL's in general and the Montecristo Robusto El specifically, it says that they produce 10,000 boxes, or 250,000 cigars of each of the ELs.
Habanos S.A. may have bumbed up the production due to the success of the ELs though...

They make them until they run out of materials. One year, I believe it was, they had a second release of Hoyo Pyramids. They were nothing like the initial release, however. What they make depends also upon the amount of adequately sized capa (wrapper).
I don't think that there's a production quota other than that, per se...but that's speculation on my part.

amazing with all the hurricanes they get slammed with that they can keep on producing.

The comment is actually quite amazing. Amazingly, tobacco production in Cuba has been ongoing for a long time. They are amazingly aware of the fact that, every August or so begins the hurricane season. By then, they have amazingly harvested the tobacco and safely stored it. It's not rocket science.
The rains from that time of year set up the conditions for a good growing season, and if there isn't enough rain, that presents a problem. Problems also can arise if there are late rains because of potential mold issues. Amazingly, not every hurricane that passes through the Caribbean hits the growing regions.

No doubt Cuban growers know what they're doing, but the DR has also been growing tobacco for some time. That did not prevent the Fuentes from using the hurricane as an excuse why OpusX shipments are scarce this year.
Maybe there were different techniques for storage. Maybe there were different cultivation methods. Maybe there wasn't ENOUGH rain and so crop yields were down. But ordinarily, hurricanes don't destroy crops or supplies because there are no crops to be affected, there are no plants in the ground... unless a storage facility (no, not the little wooden sheds) blew up, which is highly unlikely.

Also dont forget that this years leaf wont show up in the EL's and other specuial product for another 2 years. So the 2008 EL's are being rolled with 2006 leaf.
