This cigar was given to my uncle Tony by a dear friend of mine. He then traded it to me for a Partagas Salomone. Anyway this is not an everyday cigar and i though i would share what i thought of it with you all at the forum.
The construction was flawless wrapper like dark chocolate and oily. Nice aroma from the foot not the typical Cuban barnyard smell. Snipped the end with my Xikar clean cut. Draw was effortless but not loose. The bands were loose on this cigar but that is my fault as i tend to store them on the dry side. Upon lighting i noticed a faint hint of damp leather followed by an espresso and maraschino cherry taste. The leather and espresso faded quickly. The cherry lasted till the last third of the cigar.
This cigar was strong from beginning to end which surprised me due to its age. I can only imagine what it tasted like when first rolled. Strong tobacco core taste was relevant through the entire cigar. I wish there was more i can say about it. There were no real changing of flavors back and forth.Sort of a one dimension cigar. The ash was pitch black as you will see in the picture ( i took it with my camera phone). To be honest the taste was very un Cuban like it reminded more of a Nicaragua cigar than a Cuban. In a lot of respects it mimicked the Maduro 5 Cohiba's that i dislike so much.
They are very un Cuban like in taste as well IMHO. Still in all it was a enjoyable smoke well constructed and different. I would have to give this cigar an 85/100. You will notice in the picture it burned un even but 1/2 way through the cigar straighten itself out. As any well constructed cigar does. Thanks for reading my review hope you enjoyed it. Here's the link to see the cigar. Ciao Don. http://s581.photobucket.com/al...rrent=montic2003.jpg

Smoking one cigar of unknown origin and storage history isn't worth squat. A more accurate review would be if you bought a box when they first were introduced and stored them yourself in known proper conditions, smoked 25% of them and then gave us a review.

I agree. Within box taste, draw and burn variation are often quite pronounced. The cigars are placed in the box according to wrapper color and not according to the filler.
A great cigar is a great cigar but a great box is sublime.
Wow thanks so much Keck Hydro for taking the time to properly educate me on how to smoke and review a cigar. I mean you guys one could almost say you are the review section of the forum. With all the many reviews and cigar smoking experiences have you shared with us. Really if your going to stalk and harass especially after the recent chain of events. You should be more intelligent about it. You don't want to wind up like your buddy RYJ. But then again if you were smart you wouldn't be doing it in the first place.

What is the point of allowing an ash to get that long (and uneven)? There are lots of things written about how a cigar has a long ash, but in actuality, the only thing it shows is that the cigar is made with 'long filler'. It does not cool the smoke or add anything to the flavor, but rather influences flavor in a negative way because you are drawing the ash and not the burning tobacco. To each one's own. Incidentally, it probably was a Nicaraguan cigar. Stop chewing your nails.
Clarence Darrow used a trick during the Scopes trial during the closing argument of William Jennings Bryan. He stuck a wire in his cigar, and jurors were amazed that the ash never fell...they focused on that instead of the argument. Sometimes, people are smitten by form over substance, I suppose, but when anyone talks about ash, the Darrow example always comes up!

i've heard this story, with Winston Churchill sticking the wire in his cigar.
Wow i have been exposed by none other than Clouseau himself. How silly of me sticking wires in cigars, and passing off Nicaraguans as Cubans. This RYJ guy really has mystical powers. Such a sense of deductive reasoning. I tell you i am indeed spooked out.

Yeah me too. You are welcome Ozz glad you liked it. I remember waiting for them to be released they came out late the end of 2002 if memory serves me correct. I smoked a box they were okay none of them blew me away. The Partagas pyramid 2000 was a cigar that blew me away also the Cohiba pyramid 2001 and the HDM pyramid from 2003. Boy i wish i had stocked up on those.
