Happy new year!

I don't post very often (but read most of what the rest of you guys write) but I thought you would be interested in my new year's eve story. My wife and I were invited to a dinner party in another state and were supposed to come in costume. We know our hosts well but did not know who else would be at the party. Well, we decided since it was NYE we would be elegant. She dressed as Daisy Buchanan with flapper fashion and I went as Jay Gatsby in a tuxedo.

When I went to get some cigars for the evening, I vaccillated between the NC humidor and the CC humidor and finally decided, heck, it's NYE and I am going to be dressed in a tux, it's got to be high class. Not knowing how many might be inclined to join me, I selected 8 matching churchills. I think nothing is better with a good cigar late in the evening than port, so I brought a bottle of port along to share as well.

Well, it turns out that several other guys had the same idea and two others had brought sticks with them. After champagne and smooches, we went to another room to light up. I opened up my traveling humidor and invited the three others who were ready to issue in the new year with a cigar to help themselves. One guy had admitted having had a CC before (while traveling in the UK) the others were total newbies.

How I wish I had a transcript of the comments over the next hour. One guy studied the ash, claiming he had never seen a cigar ash like that one. Another kept talikng about the construction and how well made they were. Everyone was enthusiastic about the flavor. It was an amazing experience. I've never introduced three other guys at once to CCs. One guy ended his cigar by declaring it was not only the best cigar he had ever smoked but the best camaraderie he had ever experienced.

What a perfect start to a new year!
