These are definatly not the standard house blend. Remind me more of the Cohiba reserva. I have the Piramids as well. Not as good as the Robustos IMHO. But still very good and different.
Nice day today, took my 4 year old to the park to ride his bike.
Took a Selection Piramid Monte LLN NOV '03, was sitting for about 8 months in the original box.
Wonderfull smoke, Decadent heady flavors (hard to describe) with a perfect burn and draw. Not much like a normal #2. Remind me most like the Cohiba Reserva's more than anything else. Had that sweet candy like notes
Also very well fermented tobacco, no harshness at all and medium bodied.
Well, just for future reference for you guys buying Selecion Robustos, here is the original box with close up shots of labels/prints. Should be a good guide to spotting counterfeits!
Man, nobody wants to talk about these cigars. I think they are about the best thing out there right now. Agree - Disagree ?? Some say that the boxes impose too much ceder flavor. I have not found this at all. They have a sort of candy apple sweetness to the taste that is both unique and decadent.
I have smoked two boxes of Seleccion Piramides and the Monte Cristo really stood out. The regular No.2 DOES NOT taste the same as the Seleccion peice. I'm sure the blend is different, or the flavor could be a result of the packing, or just simply down to choosing only the highest quality cigars to be included in this set. This seems to be what they are doing considering the immaculate condition displayed in 99% of Seleccion boxes.
I'm still quite sure the cigar is different. I just wish they could get that quality/flavor into the standard boxes.
I'm going to go check this out tommorow. I may just have to smoke both back to back to make a thorough analysis
yeah...boxes, labels and stickers...if they're good, you're in.
and OF COURSE they're limited edition! and the Cohiba? OF COURSE they're the reserves!!
You guys gotta with what your GUT says...spot on, all the way down the line. Those cigars are the creamiest, smoothest, toothiest, isom's a guy can herf...no doubt.

Wow, interesting response from the Habanos rep. These are definatly a different blend from the regular line. Who the hell would pay $18 - $25 a cigar if you could get the same blend in the regular line for $8 - $12 per cigar ?? The only big ticket item represented is the Cohiba.
Get me a regualr line as good as these and I'm sold.

VERY few people in the world can ascertain subtleties between brands and blends...maybe a handful. Most of the time it's luck...the notion of a "Montecristo" profile or an "H. Upmann" profile has a lot to do with the power of suggestion. The tobacco used in the production of these cigars all comes from the same place at any given time. A little more seco here, a little more ligero there, capote from Villa Clara, capa from San Juan y Martinez, you have "a" blend. So, they mix and match until they make 5 different robustos or 5 different pyramids for the seleccion, slap different labels on them, and there you have it...a selection of the particular size. Do they bear any relation to the brand they purport to be? I don't think so...not in the least. Is there a commonality of profile? SURE! It's all tobacco from the same place...so that will be consistent. In reality also, the 'blends' for the cigars in the seleccion packaging are based on the popular perception of what the brand represents...for example, the Montecristo and Partagas will be a bit heftier in terms of strength...the Upmann and Hoyo will be a little lighter...the Cohiba will be in between. THOSE are the criteria for the selection of cigars...and once again, they bear little relation, in reality, to the brands they purport to be. A half a leaf more of ligero, a little seco from this pile (vuelta abajo), a little seco from this other pile (vuelta arriba), capote from here...VOILA! A blend based on GENERALIZED characteristics.

Was recently gifted a box of the Seleccion Robusto's. The presentation is appealing and makes me hesitant to "break up the set". Curious now to see if I recognize any differences in what I would expect from each sample. It's not unexpected, in each case,to think these might be an "uptown" version of an already good cigar.

Guys, last night the grand opening of my local LCDH took place. The Vice President of Habanos was here along with a few other members of the Habanos management. (I wont rave about how fantastic the experience was).
I was sitting with Manual Garcia and this thread popped into my mind while I was asking some questions about what the future has to hold for us smokers and habanos. I asked if the cigars in the Seleccion boxes were the same blend and he told me that they were "specially selected and aged".
Seleccion robustos are nothing special indeed. I have couple of boxes but mostly for presents and display. It's stupid to buy a cigar for 20 USD if normally costs 8 USD.
