i was expecting 2 boxes from spain.. the 1st came through yesterday with no issues.. it was a box of monte edmundo... the 2nd (cohiba piramides el 2006) came today with an extra tab of 110 CDN $ on it....
110 isn't that bad, so I'm going to pay it.... it just pisses me off... my only consolation is that this is the 1st box intercepted in about 2 years, so i can live with my streak...
$110 isn't that bad. Just average it out over all the boxes you've ordered and it probably works out to next-to-nothing per stick. Still cheaper than stores I bet.

That's a pain but at least you got them. I had a package intercepted recently from Switzerland. The post office says customs has it and customs say they have never seen it. Another package in the same week from the US went missing, this time the post office say they have no record at all, that was an 18 cigar sampler pack and a Xikar Folding scissors from Cigar.com, I wanted to try some American cigars. I have a feeling someone is smoking them. Luckily the Swiss guy re-sent the package to my work address free of charge and that got to me, still no sign of the US one. Looks like I'll have to order less often from Switzerland. I have a source in Spain too which is handy since there is no tax issue there, we're in the EU, Switzerland isn't but my Swiss source has a better range, including a lot of aged boxes. Out of interest, does your source mark on the package what the contents are, or any value?

I've heard of sources guaranteeing a refund for confiscations, but nobody's going to pay your taxes/levy/fine! Are there no potential criminal sanctions in Canada for illegal importation?
As for the U.S., I have extensively researched the situation, and you all will be just fine if you have a social security number assigned to your sticks (this is easy to do) and claim them as "undocumented workers." A side benefit is free health care and education for your babies.

Unlike the USA, in Canada it is not illegal to import Cuban cigars, however, it is against the law to attempt to evade the taxes on them. On the other hand if you tried to import some ivory tusks from Africa I am sure you would run afoul of the law!

well they used to scibble on the custom card, mark it as a 20 or 30$ gift... the last packages I got wre clearly marked as cigars.. still a 40$ gift.. and this is why I only had to pay 110$... these cigars retail for quite more than I paid for .... had they known the real value, I would have probably had to pay in teh vacinity of 500 or 600$...
a few years ago i had a package of diplomatico #2 intercepted, the box had cost 240$, and the customs bill was for 750 $$

I would say someone from the Post office is a cigar smoker and enjoying your treats

Interesting that both in Canada and the U.S., we don't see reports of customs, etc. destroying huge batches of intercepted cigars... it may indeed be that they are disposing of them one at a time.

I understand that very quietly he does. I think it was Rush that let that one slip.
Funny how these guys are so concerned about doing something "incorrect" within view of a camera. I heard Obama is a chain-smoker (cigarettes), but never when the cameras are rolling. Does it make it even less likely that I'd ever vote for him--no. These people on both sides of the aisle need to get a little less concerned with appearances and more so with results.

Just to clear up the Obama reference: He has admitted being a smoker, but I never heard anything about chain-smoking. He has also publicly said that he has/is trying to quit. Oh and long before running for President was a possibility for him he wrote a memoir that included material on his youthful indiscretions in high school, "Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow when you could afford it. Not smack, though." Interesting to see admitting using cocaine will affect him in the race. Bush notoriously dodged the question.
Thanks for the clarification, Sen. Obama. I am so glad that your own memoir, unlike that of every other politician on the planet, was the unvarnished truth, with absolutely no obfuscation or self-serving "revelations."

Hi AnRyan,
Sorry to hear you got stung, I've ordered from both Switzerland and Spain before and never had any problems. Touch wood, now that I've said that I'll probably get stung next time around. Would you mind if I dropped you a mail with a quick question or two about your Swiss source? My guy tends to have great deals, but all the cigars are too young to enjoy as they were meant and paying for older smokes at Irish prices is near bankrupting me...
