With all of the talk surrounding the Maduro 5s, this is the one I'm looking forward to.
Now, I understand that these are different from the earlier Gold Medals, but I'm assuming that they are intended to emulate the earlier release-- am I correct? And, if so, these will be-- if not intended for, at least prime candidates for ageing.

Went to LCDH and checked out the new arrivals. Magicos, Escudos, BGM... etc.
I picked up two boxes of BMG of ten habanos each. The pricing is around $177 USD per box.
Also bought a single for another box to try out.
The look for all the boxes I saw is very nice, and the color is not that dark but a nice chocolate color. VERY smooth to the touch and no veins.
Later, by night, went to dinner with my parents. I choose a "light" menu in order to keep my senses awake. later on I start to drink Cardenal de Mendoza (brandy).
The draw was perfect, never went away, and that is news since the high altitud in Mexico City. The perfect ammount of smoke all the way down. The ash also perfect. White all around and light gray in the center.
The most impressive was the taste. Eventho this habanos are kind of young (Box Date OCT 06 if I remember right) the first third was tipical of Bolivar. Earthy, spice, kind of strong with sweet notes of honey. The second third amuse me. Totally change the flavor. Became VERY subtle, in some point all the strong notes went away and the smoke in the mouth was like having cool air! In this point the sweet notes and the unique Bolivar taste ws there, veryyyyy subtle and pleasent. The last third become more complex, again the strong notes started and mixed in perfect balance. The aroma was nice, not that refined yet.
Well, My impression of this Habano is good. And, for sure, the age will make this a great smoke. I dont know how the old BGM tasted years ago, I only had one, with tons of age so its hard to compare, BUT this ones are really very different of the rest of Bolivar Line.
Oh! Also bought one box of Monte Petit Edmundo (25), with great dark look (hard to come by) and plume. Pricing at $300 USD.

Maybe he skipped the cigars and went straight to the tequila.

I tried these and loved them. i thought they were an improved montecristo #4 however i found their draw a little tight - could be just the one i had though. I will be getting a box for my humi in the future.
Love the new BGMs-very flavorful, smooth and well balanced for a young cigar. To me they taste no different than the BGMs that Wolters put out a few years back. I'm glad I sold my Wolters BGMs when I did because I made enough on one box to buy eight boxes of the new ones!!!

Salibas, I agree with the perfect draw, and the "strongest" part I believe is in the first third. The second third goes smooth to balance the strong flavor. Why don´t you recomend this one with an empty stomach? did you felt is too strong all the way? Also, with a rating of 91 why dont get a box for aging? I agree with you also in the wrapper... not oily, just plain and no dark. But who cares if the cigar is a winner (91)?
Thanks and nice review!
