I tried my first Edmundo this week. I was not disappointed because I am a big fan of the Monte #2 and its cousin the Diplomatico #2. I visited my local cigar store and was looking for something like a San Cristobal La Fuerza or La Punta but was told emphatically that I had to try the Edmundo because they had just come in and everyone was raving about this fabulous new cigar. What could I say?

This is a big cigar and has a powerhouse kick of nicotine. Definately not for the light hearted; the Edmundo will give you about an hour of pure joy. I would guestimate that its a 54 ring guage and about 6 inches long. The couple I shared the lounge with had also recently tried the Edmundo and we all thought it was similar to the Cohiba Siglo VI and all agreed it was a toss up as to which was a better cigar. I thought it was closer in nature to the El Rey del Mundo Epicure #2 in terms of taste and being a medium to strong tasting cigar.

The cigar was a really a pleasant surprise because of all the press has been a little negative and to many people it was a poor offering compared with the Siglo VI. I still think it is purely a toss up and depends where and when you enjoy your cigar. I really enjoyed this cigar and its size and flavour. The burn was perfect and if I was really careful would not have any ash on my clothes afterwards. The taste was a full bodied. I can not emphasize this statement enough because it was a powerhouse that made me appreciate smoking it in a chair and not on the golf course. Buyer beware.

The taste was quite complex too. Reminds me mainly of a leather taste with hints of coffee and nuts. I especially enjoyed taking the ring off and smoking it down to the last inch. This cigar is high on my list for my next purchase of a box of fine Cubans.

A powerhouse kick of nicotine? I am a bit confused about that. Please elaborate.

To quote the great Groucho Marx when he was asked by his wife to quit smoking cigars at home: "No,but we can remain good friends."

"El Rey del Mundo Epicure #2"

Confused

I smoked an edmundo. I didn't think is was as good as all that. I think it needs some time to age. It has the makings of a fantastic cigar but the flavor never really turned that corner for me. I don't like the monte no 2 all that much so I thought the edmundo was better than that but not as good as most of the cohibas or bolivars I have smoked lately.

Hard work may pay off eventually but laziness always pays off now.

i felt the edmindo was a bit under rolled and spongie, im not thrilled with the new releases as of yet including the psd 1.
i am hoping the cohiba sublime and ryj hermosa #2 will be better...i have high hopes for the new cohiba and should be getting some in a week or two.

Yeah, you can compare those two - they both suck. Albeit, Siglo VI has some future because it has potential to age. Edmundo, on the other hand, doesn't have the kick, the power and the ooomph in it. It's bland, papery and characterless. I smoked 5 Edmundos from 2 different boxes and they all tasted the same. Biggest dissapointment since Siglo VI.

I have smoked a couple of Edmundos out of my box and will not try another for at least a year. The boxcode is GKI ABR04 and they were a lot different than the way Hammurabi described. Mine were very peppery with a slightly bitter coffee and leathery flavor. They had a lot of flavor but were also quite unbalanced and harsh. I think that after a couple of years in the humidor they should be fairly good. At least that is what I am hoping for. Cool

I second that although I have only smoked one Edmundo and it's exactly what you said. I have a couple Siglo VI sitting in my humi for future testing Smile

I thought this might be the place for me to post that I am looking for a few of these but don't at all want to spring for a box. Please email me at the below address, or see the post I was just about to make in the "trading" forum and leave info there.
