In raw dollars, however, the United States is Now the world’s top donor of economic aid, although for more than a decade it was second to Japan, which is far smaller and has been beset by economic woes. In 2001, the United States gave $10.9 billion, Japan $9.7 billion, Germany $4.9 billion, the United Kingdom $4.7 billion, and France $4.3 billion. As a percentage of GNP, however, the top donors were Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Sweden. The tiny Netherlands (pop. 16.3 million) gave $3.2 billion in 2001—almost a third of what America contributed.

Here are the facts as put forth by the Council on Foreign Relations. So USA does give the most not Japan.

Skeptics argue that giving aid often means squandering taxpayers’ hard-earned dollars on inefficient programs or corrupt regimes. Some experts also say that other countries should shoulder the foreign-aid burden since U.S. spending on defense during and after the Cold War has protected its allies.

In March 2002, President Bush surprised foreign-aid supporters by pledging to increase U.S. assistance by 50 percent over the next three years—the biggest rise in 45 years, resulting in a $15-billion increase by 2006.

How much of what is "given" is the excess dairy or grain products produced by highly subsidized, unproductive agriculture in Europe.
Protectionists policies (and disguised protectionist tricks) prevent a tomato from being imported into a rich country and this same rich country dumps excess cheese all over the world.

Military aid by the USA, Britain and France is making some people rich and amputating the limbs of children in too many places to count. A f**king disgrace. A festering sore.

I agree ... I love my country (the USA), but hate the way it does business around the world. And this neo-conservatism is just making things a whole lot worse. I can't believe I actually agree with Pat Buchanan.

Anyway, what does this have to do with Cuba ... we are getting off tangent.

Ron,
Thanks for chiming in again,
1. You told us we were over the top
2. You told me I was putting out propaganda, & I asked you for examples, you could come up with none.
3.Then you said I know nothing of the subject.
4. Now its quote"neo-conservative"

Put out an opinion Ron, your good at attacking people you disagree with, & thats about it.

What is your opinion Ron? You haven't made one point yet.

Danstuft, let's avoid antagonizing the other members of the board. Stating opinions is fine, trolling is not. Oedipus, physical threats aren't welcome here. That post has been deleted.

dan,

You are one these guys where the conversation goes something like this:

Me: dan, the sky is blue.
You: No it isn't, it's green.

How can I argue with a person like that (you), just going in circles, regardless of the truth?

Go play in traffic or something, really.

Ron,
Thanks again for clearing up your opinion.

All, I have had fun on this discussion, but when David chimes in, I will call it a day. It's been fun.

Like I said Alex, "the Lig", you've become quite the class act. So sad how you think the juvenile trolling is clever. A grown man...well, whatever.

I got good news and bad news.

The good news is I'm going to Cuba this Feb.

The bad news is the good scuba diving is at the opposite end of the island than Havana. And I only have two weeks. Tsk tsk.

The good news is I'll travel to both ends.
Hehehehe. Jejejeje. A wicked mind. Kackle kackle.

There is no bad news. Plus a few people get work from the hard US dollars I bring down. Los Yanquis dolores. Dolores no dollares.

Interesting. "Everybody got sick of your bullsh*t. "

And he or whoever it is is supposed to care because??? And anyone else is supposed to care because??? And even if it was true the names you put down are significant because??? Because you say so?

Ever consider that a whole lot more people are sick of Alex the hun, Alex the hoodlum, and those little games you play! You disgrace the name of Oedipus1 by using it to do what you promised not to do. Once the curtin comes down, your no wizard your just Alex. Just don't look at the little man behind the curtin.

Eventually time travel will be impossible.

Back to Castro and hurricanes -- the United Nations has applauded Cuba for the way they evacuated over a million people to safety just before Ivan struck. I believe there hasn't been any reported deaths in Cuba from this latest storm. I could dig up the article if danstudds has any doubts.

Oedipus/Bluerage and the rest of you with aliases coming from the same camp:

Some of the stuff you bring up in this thread and other threads, it's gruesome hatred, really caustic stuff. I understand you guys don't like each other, but why come over here and $hit all over the place?

This is a cigar board, where did it happen that things got so disjointed justifying taking it to this level, this time? I just don't see it. It should be about the cigars, but if it's about something else, why not take it up privately?

The threats, the secrets, all this crap. People have there issues with RyJ, fine ... but taking it to the level where threats are made, material of an unflattering nature are exposed, dishonoring one's deceased mother, it's a bad reflection on you guys, not on what someone may have done or said in the past.

I'm not anyone's minion. But I know many of us have done right and wrong, but just laying on the wrong isn't going to make everything right again. There is alot of history here, I understand this. I speak with a fair amount of knowledge of all the angles.

That said, your current foray seeking revenge or whatever your goal is, why make it a pile of $hit for the rest of us to deal with? Do you not care about the collateral damage you are causing, or how uncomfortable of a situation you are putting many of us with no axe to grind into?

Ron, we laid this to rest a long time ago. RyJ was attacked by one of our friends who'd had a few too many drinks. He took that to mean that he could start spouting off about ALL of us. No need for that. Anyway, there is no need for this to go any further. We wish this forum and it's posters well. Except for Cigoz, but we'll take care of that issue elsewhere, not here. Peace to you all.
