I'm in Canada so these might be ok but I goggled the exact type and it turns out they are the most counterfeited in the world = makes me wonder. As well, the guy who sold me this one has a very small selection in a convenience store and sold it at a pretty good price after suddenly getting a couple of boxes out of the blue.
So basically I don't know if he's for real or if he's just selling fakes someone got him and truthfully, I haven't had one before (well, once many, many years back) so I have little to compare it to regardless.
I'm curious as to if anyone can tell the difference by a couple of pics. I did take a look at the box and it looks right - all wood, lacquered, official looking seals, etc and the band itself has raised gold lettering.
What do you think? I really don't want to cut one open to find out.
BTW I hate to ask but if I just smoked it would the "Cohiba amazingness" shine through to anyone and the answer become clear anyway? Keep in mind I've only been getting into cigars for a while now and have little experience with higher end Cubans.
Sounds good to me. Get an fireworks? They would probably be a better bang for your buck.

yes, Rick, cutting it open what decide where the tobacco is from, but it will tell you if all the tobacco is long filler, or a mixture of short filler and long filler (which is a tell-tale sign of a fake)

One telling factor in deciding if it's real CC is if it has a triple cap or not.
The wrapper and band seem to look legit...
triple cap isnt the only to consider i have a los of fakes, with triple cap, just burn tone stick to can decide

I don't think one needs to look at the pictures, or cut it open or smoke one. The red flags are soooo obvious:

While there are plenty of convenience stores in this country with legit cubans (mainly tubed Romeo and Monte), "out of the blue" sounds suspect. Do you know the store owner well enough to ask him where he got them and get honest answer? If the answer goes anything like "some guy", I would imagine they are quite likely fake.

convenience stores around here are rampant with these cohiba .. most sell them at 29 or 30$ each...
200% of them are fakes... in fact, the only cigars that might be real in these convience stores are the tubed ones; and you should be very wary of those as well....
But their fireworks are all legit. And they are easy to test.

So, essentially there's no way to really tell then short of slicing and dicing.
