I have just received my second order of Montecristo #2 from a good source which has been confirmed by many helpful members here thank you again. My question is after doing allot of home work prior to my first order I am under the impression that all retailers pay the same amount for the cigars when they leave Cuba. This is why a $400 box of real Cubans will never be sold for say $200.
The reason I am asking this is because I am placing my third order which is going to include a box of Cohiba Siglo VI for about $450 which seems to be what the going rate is. A friend of mine has been buying Cubans for many years through his source and tells me I am paying way too much. He said he pays $200 for all Cubans regardless of brand and has all the original boxes to confirm this. This makes no sence to me and I told him they have to be fake you can’t buy a box of say Montecristo #2 for the same price as Cohiba Siglo VI or Cohiba 40th anniversary.
Thanks
Peter

Gee, tell him to get you a box of Cohiba Behike.
No wait, don't. Save the $$$. It's like tickets for court side seats at the Garden, it they aren't expensive, they are fake. Never, ever, in my experience, can you get Havana cigars at any kind of real discount. Any story, diplomats, cousins, guy works at the factory, blah, blah, blah, is a sure fire sign of counterfeit cigars. Here is a pretty good site with prices in Cuba.

Havana cigars are luxury items that are in demand all over the world. Why would anyone sell them below market price?

You're friend has been smoking fakes for a long time. Let him try one of yours for comparison.

That is a common and tell-tale sign of fakes...all boxes costing the same, that is. I can't tell you how many U.S. based B&M's I've walked into all over the country that do this. Everything from Esplendidos to PSD4's to EL's...all the same price. Keep doing what you're doing and don't listen to your friend.

Thank guys for the responses. I knew I was correct when I spoke to him but being new to cigars I didn’t have enough knowledge to convince him they had to be fakes at $200 box. Rass Lover thank you for the list.
