I like to cut the tip half way at an angle.

Which angle is better.?
Parallel to the the wrapper joint?
OR
Perpendicular to the wrapper joint?

The reason I ask is that a wrapper is wrapped in a helix (screw path) around the shaft of the cigar. There is no cap on a pyramid.

One type of cut leaves an acute point of wrapper at the tip. The other type is a more obtuse point.

I asked a buddy in Mtl. He says he cuts straight. Another buddy in NYC says "never thought about it"

My preference is a straight cut but that's only because I keep the smokes in my mouth most of the time. I've never had a problem with a wrapper coming undone if the cut wasn't too far down. If I had to take a stab at the angle topic, I'd say perpendicular to the roll because it will keep the leaf that is still on the cigar thicker rather than if it was parallel. But, I've never tried it out so it's just a hypothesis.

It depends if it's a left handed cigar or a right handed cigar, and then on top of that, if you're a left handed smoker or a right handed smoker. Another variable is the direction of the wind...while lighting and when smoking.

I always look in the mirror when I'm preparing my cigar. I even carry a pocket mirror. So left handed in the mirror means right handed in my own real world.
I even put on my tie in front of a mirror.
(I don't urinate in front of a mirror ever since I stopped drinking and started to like myself)

My experiments have shown than an obtuse angled cut unravels less. Thus more perpendicular to the wrapper helix is IMHO the way to go.
