I recently got a 5 pack of Vegas Robaina Famosos. I wound up on the Habanos verification page and put the UPC numbers in. The first time it came back as Monte PE's. I went back again and now it is saying invalid code. Has anybody used this verification and is it accurate? I thought I had a reliable source for cuban "puros" but this makes me wonder.

I have a box of Vegas Robaina Famosos and on the new cuban tax sticker the numbers have been rubbed off next to the bar code. I think many gray market internet vendors do this, although not sure why. To me it doesn't matter, I know my sticks are the real deal.

Just used it on a couple of boxes and it worked great... I had an 09 box of Diplomaticos #5 and a 10' box of PPCE and they both checked out.

The system is far from perfect.

The 5 packs were discontinued last year (2009). Maybe this has somethineg to do with it?

Thanks guys. I feel a little better! They look good, no real reason to doubt from appearance. I smoked one ROTT and thought it was OK. I will eventually try 4 more and see how they are!

A couple of people i know have reported the same thing with stamps for this vendor. They always come up Monti something or other. They are always something other than what they come up as. This vendor had other problems not so long ago. Shipping many moldy sticks, That and his rather to good to be true prices. Have kept me on the sidelines.

Due to recent budget cuts and the rising cost of electricity, gas, and oil....... the Light at the End of the Tunnel has been turned off. We apologize for the inconvenience.

This is what makes me want to say it ain't so. Any sticks I have from there look good (i.e. triple caps, bands...). This was the 1st time that I used the Habanos verification though

I wouldn't blame a vendor on system issues. For instance, recently I had to enter a Sig II code 4 times before it came back accurate.

One of the problems is it's a little strange how you enter different amounts of code for the different labels; once I thought their directions were incorrect on what actually worked. I've also seen one code produce different results.

When all is said and done, smoke it and you'll know.

I can't see the pics because I'm in China right now (discussions about their internet censoring tabled for some other time).

However... I would NOT base my opinion, of authenticity, based on that absolutely horribly functioning system that has NEVER worked well!!!

I've been INSIDE an LCDH and punched in codes, from the BlackBerry, to find not a single box to come out right... most weren't found and a couple misread as other sticks! Ha!

I've had similar luck in my shipments to home... some have worked... the majority have not.

Firstly, find confidence in your source (many BOTLs will verify your source via email).

Then, get to know your product (look, feel, aroma, packaging and taste).

With confidence in your source and a taste that is unmistakeable... I wouldn't even bother with that silly program.

My .01...

Cheers!

Probleme beim Echtheitstest auf www.habanos.com

Sehr geehrter Habanos Specialist,

Problems authenticity test for www.habanos.com

Dear Habanos Specialist,

recently, we received some requests for authenticity testing of Habanos www.habanos.com the boxes on the website in several cases was not working properly.
As the Official sole importer of Habanos in Germany, we must confirm this experience, unfortunately. Even in our tests with unequivocal original product of Habanos from our extensive inventory, this function in about 30-50% of cases did not work correctly. Original commodity is specified by entering the number as a fake.

We have Habanos s.a. of course immediately made aware of the malfunction and pointed out that these are retailers and consumers will lead to uncertainty. Where we publish Habanos Cigar Journal No. 41 (December 2009) had we made trade and consumers in Germany as a precautionary measure attention.
We hope that Habanos s.a. this dysfunction is correct and hereby apologize to you and your customers for the resulting irritation.
We assure you that it is the act of us put on the market to correct Habanos original product.

Yours sincerely,

I just checked my 3 pack of CORO's and apparently I'm a victim of fraud too...

I'll keep checking and see if it changes!

I just entered the code from my packages and it came back as "victim of fraud".

I am wondering how is the format of the numbers we are supposed to use? Do we use spaces, commas, or all numbers with trailing zeros?

Can someone who has entered the UPC and it came back as valid, comment as to what format they used?

Still seems to work for me... Just verified another 2 boxes yesterday: Trini Reyes and RyJ Short Churchill

These are 09'& 10' boxes though so that might have something to do with it.

Or maybe my vendor is sending me really good fakes and and sticking on new warranty seals that they have copied from matching real boxes.... Wink lol

So other than experience of tasting, how can someone really verify if they are receiving authentic cubans over the internet?
