Thank you to all of you who offered your well wishes for my wife who had surgery to remove a cancerous uterus.
Good news and bad. Although the cancer was contained in the uterus, the pathology report indicates that some of the cells were clear cell carcinoma rather than just adenocarcinoma. clear cell is very rare occuring in 1 out of 1000 cases. The doctors are confused by the results and have sent a specimen to Harvard for another opinion. If it turns out to be, in fact, clear cell, she will need radiation and chemotherapy.
We continue to keep our fingers crossed. It will take two weeks to get the results back.
Again, thank you for your kind thoughts and support.
Tell your wife that, while radiation isn't fun; she can get through it. Back in the winter, the first part of my protocol was seven weeks of chemo 24 hours a day (carried an infusion pump around with me), simultaneous with radiation five days a week. It set me back a bit, but within a month of the last treatment, I was completely recovered from the side effects.
If needed, her physicians will prescribe Percocet, or some other pain medication that will minimize the discomfort.
Best wishes to you both.
