Went to Niagara-on-the-Lake today. Purchased two Montecristo no 2. Couldn't waite to get home and sit out side to enjoy the sunny day. I was very dissapointed in this cigar. Maybe I got a bad one and the second one will be better. Or maybe I recieved fakes. I got them at Customs house. I heard they were legit but pricey. at $30.00 a crack, yes they are pricey but I was jonesing for this cigar. The burn was bad. Canooed a good inch. The draw was very tight. The taste was bitter and metalic. I finaly doused it and opened it up to discover some very lite green leeves. All points to a fake or young maybe?
Any opinions.

As a resident of the Niagara Peninsula it is my opinion that Gordons on Ferry St is the only safe place in the area to buy legitimate Cuban cigars.
The shops in NOTL cater to tourists , many from the USA, a great venue for selling phoneys.
A common pratice around here is to put Fakes into authentic boxes, if the box you got that cigar from was worn and tattered, you got a fake.

$30 is what you should expect to pay for a Monte #2, but the green leaves doesn't sound right. Young or not, there should be no green in the cigar.

Thanks guys. I stopped at Gordan's before heading up to NOTL but he was closed.
Trial & error, live & learn.
It will be Gordan's next time.

Wow, now that I've researched more this was a huge error on my part. I was so amped up about what I've heard of this cigar and quite sure I could trust this cigar store that I didn't realize that it could be fake. As I hold the second one in my hand, unbanded, and look it over compared to pictures, I can't believe how off color this cigar is. It is extremely lite colored. Dry lokking with no oil's.
Man I have alot to learn. To bad it cost me $60.00 to find out. But it is an inexpencive lesson in the long run. Do your homework no matter how good you hear the source is.

Better $60 than $600. As kechke said, the whole area abounds with fake cigars catering to the tourist industry at the Falls. I hope that you checked out Gordon's hours so that you don't get caught with your pants down next time.
As for the Monte 2's, they used to be really hit and miss (but still decent) but have somewhat stabilized the last few years. Look for anything 2003 or younger.

Well, at least I should have more time for a cigar now...
