I am expecting my first child in the next couple of months and looking to get a nice box. Been stocking up on BBF, RASS, Mont #4 & #2, H UP #2 over the past year but want to get away from those and go for a nice, full-bodied churchill or DC.
I have a few R&J Churchills from a few years back and not looking to go that direction. I have a few narrowed down and if you have any more suggestions don't hesitate to tell.

RA Gigantes
Part Lusitanias
Bol CG
Part 898
HdM DC
Punch Churchil

What do you think? Any more suggestions?

Thanks in Advance

definately the DC ELs. Spend a little more now, be greatly rewarded later on.

I just received a box of RyJ Churchills BVD ABR 04, and they're smoking wonderfully. Medium to full, perfect construction so it burned like a laser, flavor was great all the way down to a nub.
The bad news is that I split the box 3-ways, and if I don't get intouch with the other guys soon, I might end up owing them some cash!
Though the CoDCs are a great suggestion, the RyJs will be priced so that you don't wipe out your kid's tuition savings.

BigSkyGriz1 --Felicidades on your first child. My wife and I are expecting our first on Oct 9th (at least that's what the Dr.s say)

The Lusi is a special occasion cigar to me. It was my wedding cigar. And the only one on your list that I have tried. A1-Excellent, by the way. I plan to do the same when purchasing the birthday cigar as I did for the wedding cigar....after passing out cigars to family and friends, I smoke one from what is left of the box every year. I plan to save one, so I can get to smoke one with my child, when they get old enough. (doesn't matter if it's a boy or girl) I think that will be a very special moment. I remember my first cigar with my father will always be etched in my memories.

My concept for the cigar for the 1st child will be to pick a cigar with the #1 in the name. Most I've heard of fall into the Cervantes, Cazadores sizes. Some have names and reputations that I think will go good as a milestone cigar, like: Connoisseur No. 1, Epicure No. 1, Seleccion Privada No 1, Serie du Connaisseur No 1, Hermoso No. 1 Limited Edition. All names I know will describe my feeling for a child of mine.

Cigoz --had a good idea, too. Get a box with the code date of the same month and year of childs birth. I'm going to try to do that, if I can find them in the local shops or ask the owner to request them from his rep.

Bigsky, all good choices except, the 898 is not a churchill or DC & Hoyo DCs are rather mild. If you can afford them, Cohiba DC EL is the best. A close second, but harder to find is the Monte DC EL, just starting to come around nicely.

I think if i was gunna pay 620$ for the Cohiba DC`s i would just spring the extra 80$ and get the selection of 30 EL Cohibas in the nice wooden box. Comes with Four DC`s too.

Man, you guys are pulling out the stops.

The Cohiba DC EL is a fine cigar -- it will probably be spectacular in about four years. Not a churchill, though.

If you want something that IS a churchill and that is smoking beautifully right now, try to get a box of SLR churchills. Great cigars, truly.

In some circles, the 'dalia' is a churchill, although not the classic 'julieta' that is 7 inches with a 47 ring gauge. It's ALMOST there, but not quite. The Partagas 8-9-8 (or Allones 8-9-8) are both dalias.

Recent production RA Gigantes are excellent. But DC's are pretty hefty cigars. If you want something more elegant and more comfortable and manageable to smoke, go for the Partagas or Allones 8-9-8. Great packaging, too...the great aromatic cedar box...can't go wrong.

Congratulations!

My favorite in the Churchill size is the Cohiba Esplendido, followed by the H. Upmann Sir Winston. They have been the most consistent over the past few years. In the DC size, it really is hard to beat the Cohiba EL DC, but a good Partagas Lusi would come in a close second IMHO. Actually, any of these would be a nice complement to the memorable event of having your first child.

They all look like great choices for any occasion of course!
But if you are looking for a churchill...
Recently I bought the last two Bolivar Churchill (tubed) that I could find...and as I understand, they are not to be produced any more. Simply a fantastic full bodied churhchill! If you can find them...get them!

And congratulation on Fatherhood...in advance! Smile

Depends on the budget - if I could afford it, I would probably smoke nothing but Sir Winstons (for a while, at least). If you don't want to spend that much, Boli CG can be a great cigar, but much better with some age to take the edge off. If you can get them with a few years on them, may be a good choice. Otherwise, the Hoyo DC can get pleasant a little quicker.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

I just got my first Churchill box in, I opted for the RyJ POWs since rumor has it they are soon to be discontinued.

Out of those listed, I think the BCG is an AMAZING cigar.

Just my $.02
