PARTAGAS Serie D No.4: I heard all the talk, seen and read the reviews...AND smoked one last year...which didn't (according to my taste) meet the expectations I had. Granted, I always give a cigar more than a second chance Of COURSE. Perhaps it wasn't stored well, maybe it was a bad box...but it seemed dull and unflavorful (is that a word?) Anyhow, please give me your first hand accounts so I can close this case
Sound's like fake. Of all the gazillion boxes of PSD#4 I've had from vintage 98'to recent production have been exellent ....AND REMEMBER................"KEEPONSMOKING & HAPPY CHURCHILLS"

Go to "Plume's Survey Results" thread currently on page one. Also go to "My first PSD4" thread currently on the first page as well. Granted not scientific, this feedback and other feedback you get from this board on the PSD4 is solid if not the best you can get.
If you've experienced a bad one CHANCES ARE that it was too young, stored improperly, fake, OR you simply don't like a good PSD4.

It's possible, too, that the somkes you are describing are in their "sick" period. The PSD4 seems to be especially susceptible to this.
I think they're a great smoke out of the box. I have had some (in their sick period) recently that I thought were good but not great. I've got only one box left, which, I will try to get some age on before smoking again. I tend to sample them as I go to see if they improve. That said, I'll never really know how long it takes!

There are lots of reasons that could be factored into to the questions and HIS subjective views. do we really need a ding? LOL
Only time and a few more posts will tell; HOWEVER, I believe the following:
1. If you can not taste the punch in the face that a PSD4 offers, then your taste buds have been zapped
2: I believe that PSD4 can cure sinus and olfactory problems. I have written testaments stating that thousands and thousands of sinus sufferers were able to "smell the roses" once again after smoking a PSD4
3: Over indulgence in alcohol can MUTE the refined flavors of a PSD4, as well as others, even though I know nothing of the sort
4. Perhaps great traditional Cuban flavor and spice are flavors that genetics has predicated to each of us to enjoy or totally miss. An example would be sodium benzoate in Coca-Cola.
"but this was from a "retailer" so its unlikely.... "
I can show you several retailers right here in Chicago who will sell you fakes and tell you they are real Cuban cigars. Buying from a retailer don't mean squat.

Wow there are alot of Kinda-oisseur on this board...Give the guy a break maybe it was just a bad cigar. Plus to be honest ive smoked my share of cigars in the past 5 years been to cuba 5 times.. I have had bad cigars which were ligit. So it could come down to simply a bad one out of the bunch
I have purchased three boxes of PSD#4 and smoked probably 20. Never had a bad one until the one I smoked last night, which was moderatly plugged and turned positively nasty with a bit over 2" left to smoke. Since this was from the same box(es) as the others, there's no reason at all to suspect it's fake. Point is, there is such a thing as a bad PSD4. After all, we are dealing with vegetable matter and hand manufacturing. It's not at all surprising that you can run across a dud from time to time.
On the other hand, too, mine might have entered the dreaded "dumb period" by now.

Now that almost everyone has had fun at my expense...which started out as an honest question...another question comes to mind...WHY DID I EVEN BOTHER ASKING YOU? The cigar I smoked WAS authentic...see we don't have that problem up here...it was a bad cigar period. Draw your own conclusions.
"PARTAGAS Serie D No.4: I heard all the talk, seen and read the reviews... Anyhow, please give me your first hand accounts so I can close this case" Where is the question? You heard all the talk, you have seen and read all the reviews.....what did you want everyone to say? That they suck? OK here ya go they SUCK all Cuban cigars SUCK! Hope this makes you feel better.
