the 06 piramides are spectacular smokes... I don’t think you can really compare them to the CM5’s..I’m not saying they won’t be as good.. just different..

the CM5’s are rolled with 5 year old wrapper, binder and filler. I also believe they left the wrapper leaves on the trees for an extra week or 2.

On the other hand, the 2006 EL’s were rolled with 2 year old wrapper.. and back then they were still using fresh filler and binder…

this resulted in 2 cigars that have quite a different taste profile.

The MD5 has the deep flavour that a maduro should have.. it’s full bodied.. it’s earthy .. it’s got this heaviness to it..

the piramide on the other hand is more balanced.. it’s a powerful but creamy smoke.. somehow the aged wrapper and the young binder/filler balance themselves out to create this perfect harmony.

Although I have seen some very dark piramides, I have never seen some as dark as the MD5’s I have…

I'm with Sheep... I agree that there is better value to be had in the regular lineup of Cohibas.

I have had the Genios and Magico's My sentiment towards these cigars is well known.
Now i come to find my wife for fathers day has purchased a 10 box of secreto's for me.
Ah well what can i do i guess i will have to try them as well.
I will not be home till after father's day so she gave me the cigars early.
I guess i will have to pretend i like them or maybe not maybe they will surprise me.
I will keep you all posted.

Interesting. My first thought upon smoking the Maduro 5's was that they tasted like the Pyramide.

That said, I've smoked a lot more of the Maduro 5's than the Pyramides to date. I'll have to do a side-by-side taste test someday.

To the question, my experience with this line has been consistent with the other two. Smaller thinner ring gauges are a better expression of the marca, IMVVHO. I mean, is there a better representation of "Cohiba-ness" than an Exquisito, or "Siglo-ness" than a Sig 1? Not to me at least.

But Chacun a son gout.
