Enjoyed one of these last night after supper.
It is from an 02 box and has been resting comfortably for 6 years. I purchased this box at LCDH in Rome. I remember trying one when i got home the box was young only about 3 months old at that time. I remember they tasted terrible must have been in there so called sick period. I remember they had an strong taste that reminded me of soot and smelled like burning plastic.

So i put them away i mean i buried them in the back of the pile.I really gave them no thought at all till last night.I was tired of the same old cigars so i figured i would give these a shot.I was also curious if they got any better as these are still around and available.Coming off a loss to Spain this weekend in the Euro 08 i figure how much worse can this cigar be.

Snipped the end nice draw a little on the loose side. The cigars have some bloom on them the wrappers are still oily. The pre light aroma is something i have never smelled in a cigar. The aroma was that of raw celery and nuts.I toasted the foot which took a few seconds as it is a small girth cigar. The flavors where instantaneous in coming no lag whatsoever.

Nutty, sweet, celery is as best as i can describe them. These flavors while pleasant where never over powering. The cigar burned quickly but never hot.Burn and draw remained constant and perfect throughout the entire time.A mild and pleasurable cigar with perfect construction.

The second half of the cigar changed. The nutty sweet taste faded away. The only flavor was an increasingly stronger tobacco taste complimented by the still ever present celery taste. The celery taste never left this cigar and got much more pronounced in the last half. I must say it was an interesting light body cigar.I tossed it at the last third. I am not to found of celery except maybe in a soup or chopped in a chicken or tuna salad sandwich. So there it is if anybody is wondering why these are still around i guess no one is that found of celery either.I would give this cigar another try in 4 more years when they are 10 years old. As they stand now i would give them 75 out of a possible 100 points.

Sorry to hear about the celery stick. Personally I really enjoy these along with the no. 2s. I usually get cedar, nuts and tons of honey from them. Surprising intensity of flavour for a lighter bodied stick imo.

Yeah it is like that sometimes.
I have tasted many things from a cigar.
Most recently White Figs from a Cohiba 2006 ED LMTD. That was a shocker in itself i have been puffing cigars for 30 years. That was a first but celery i would have never expected that one. I guess thats the flavor many refer to as vegetale.

Sheepshead, I had a Gloria Medallie #1 about 6 months ago, it was from a box of 2001, and both the draw as well as the taste was mediocre.

Mine tasted like Lettuce with acidic after taste, I bought 5 of these Habanos at LCDH, and I was surprised when I saw that the box was from 2001, and the moment I smoked one I knew why.

I have those 4 Habanos also resting, but I doubt they will get better, since the taste is just so mediocre, it leaves a bad taste.

Hola Roberto

Yeah if they where a great cigar i guess there would be as you have said none left. I am disappointed as i always liked La Gloria the Tainos are one of my favorite Churchills.Made in small batch boxes of ten they are very elusive in Europe. The last time i was in Spain i was able to grab 5 boxes but alas they are all gone.

Celery is a most unusual aroma! I have a few left from a 97 box & they have been excellent cigars- and much stronger than some 99s I tried.

Thanks for the review. A MDO#1 was the best cigar I have ever had. I have also had some so-so ones. I guess thats the risk with a turn of the century thin gauage cigar.

Quite interesting as a MDO#1 I had last week from
a '00 box provided citrus tanginess combined with an underlying honey sweetness. There was also what I thought to be hints of floral notes, which were probably suggested by this aromatic stick.
However, when I first purchased these MDO#1's in '02, they were strong and tannic with very muted flavors.

Signor Bay,

how bout them PSpaniards, eh???? Big Grin They have quite a challenge in front of them on Sunday, but there is nothing like Spanish tenacity my friend. We will be victorious!!!

anyhow, thanks for the review. These are different the typical habanos. I have had the pleasure of smoking these beautie but that is what i noticed was the difference in taste after the first 1/3 or so. kind of reminds me of the Cuabas but burn better. The bad part, imho, was after the 2/3, it began to taste more like normal chewin tobacco, or something not too pleasant to run through your nose, make sense? that is why it is not in my top 5. good cigars, but i did not like the way the finished.

thanks for the review. right on the money my friend.

Hola
Signor Fedor
The Spaniards looked great. They ran the Ru skies into the ground Great Victory.I was not surprised people keep forgetting they held the Italians scoreless. That is no easy feat even though the Italians played a game that they wanted decided on penalty kicks. Why they did that i will never know. The only thing i can figure is they wanted to boor the crap out of us. Anyway i congratulate you in advance for your victory over the Germans. As i will be at the game and may not come to the forum for a couple of days.
