You picked a great resort, imho!! For a Cuban resort, the food is very good. I've seen 1 marriage there. The couple were married on the Gazee Boo, with two cuban's playing guitar and it was beatiful to watch this from my balcony while listerning to the music(smoking a cigar, of course) The staff were great and lots of organized events from spanish lessons to ball hockey at the beach. This resort is on it's own between Varadero and Havana(about 50 min to 1 hr from Havana)Make sure you go on the walking tour to a local farm!!! Snorkling/diving is great at this resort and lessons are available(free I believe). The cigar shop here is very good with a better selection than most resorts in the Varadero area. If you want something in particular, ask early and they'll order what you want, but, better yet buy em in Havana during your visit, which, you absolutely have to do!!!! Here is a site you "SHOULD" go to for many reviews on this resort:

Make sure you get out of the resort and meet some of the local people!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll likely go there next Feb.

Its an hour east of Havana. Some good diving I hear.

To get a good sense of the essence of Cuba, it is essential to leave the resort and check out other places...perhaps Playa Larga to the south...Cienfuegos, Villa Clara, Trinidad...Havana for sure. Otherwise, life there will be much like life at any other tourist resort, whether in Montego Bay, Cancun, or Aruba.

Yup, it's quite nice there. Good scuba and snorkeling right off the resort's beach. Decent humidor for a resort, but they don't keep them in the best conditions. It's not far to Havana if you want to go to the factories. Don't bother with the river cruise, it's not that great.

Have fun!

How did you guys get there? I thought Cuba was closed to Americans except on special tours. Or do you just have to go through Mexico or Canada?

I was there last June.
No children allowed, guests must be 15 years old or more.

Cigar store had some year 2003 stock, which I happily bought most of it.
Got my off the book DCs delivered in from Havana.
Saw the summer solstice. The sun was ever so slightly to the north at solar noon on the first day of summer.
Hot hot hot.
Beach was kind of rocky.
Nice reefs to scuba and skin dive close by. Scuba club onsite.
Food was good. It's a Beaches chain.
My room was very nice, newly renovated, on ground floor facing the beach on the eastern end of the property.
Nice hills surround the place.
