I have only been smoking seriously for about 6 months. I love it. Naturally i am trying everything i can get my hands on. That includes some Cubans. I admit i picked blindly from the mild to medium end of the spectrum, but after smoking one, El Rey del Mundo Choix Supreme, i have to say i was not all that impressed.

But last night i smoked a cuban Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure and man alive that was good. The smoke and flavor were just amazing the whole way through. just that notch above the best non-cuban sticks i have been trying (and that includes some high end cigars)

so the question is . . .

What was the first Cuban that made you say WOW there really IS something to this Cuban Cigar thing!

A Fonseca. It was light but had lots of flavor... Haven't had one in a while come to think of it. That was when I had just started though. Recently my wow smoke has been the RASCC. I absolutely love these little guys, the flavor is unlike anything else I have had. Unbelievably smooth.

Upmann Monarch, but that was a long time ago, before the 95 blend changes.

Montecristo #4. It was also my first cigar. I was spoiled.

I'm sorry you don't like the choix supreme. I have one in my humidor that Ozz sent me and my mouth waters every time I open the lid. I'm going to smoke it this week and I'm *really* looking forward to it. I haven't had one yet, but the descriptions I've read have me very interested.

I'm surprised you didn't like the Choix suprême. It's one of my favorites (I like mild to medium sticks).

As to my first WOW cigar: it was a Cuban Davidoff Yquem (way back in the early 80's)

I went through all the usual suspects. Monte 2, Cohiba VI, PSD4, RASS, RyJ Church, etc. and they were all GREAT, but it wasn't until I tasted the Trinidad Reyes that I felt all tingly funny down there. Next thing you know it went from 6pm to midnight.

Montecristo #4.

x2

Monte #4 sold me on cubans, before that I had a Petit Edmundo (perhaps too strong at the time) and a Magnum 46 before that (which I think was a bit dry since I left it in the tube (outside a humidor)for 2 weeks)

I think my first CC was a PSD4, but could also be a Siglo VI or HdM Regalos, all of which were great. However, my first "WOW" CC has to be an H. Upmann Magnum 46.

It didn't pop my CC cherry, but the Siglo III is the one that got me to take a serious look into cigars in general.

I have to say the Siglo Vi in a tube was my undoing. Right now I am stuck on Trinidad Reyes and Mag 46. Cant find anything really beose two boxes I am smoking now. For this month anyway.

Towards the end of last Winter I smoked a HdM Petit Robusto that was sitting in my humidor for about 6 months. I found it very unimpressive.

Over this past weekend I lit up another (by this time it had a 13 month rest in my humidor) and was totally blown away!

It was the 1st time ever I was able to distinguish several distinct flavors in a cigar be it CC or NC.

Suffice to say more are on their way.

A Cohiba Robusto for me. In fact, a lot of the time i think the whole cuban thing is a little overrated. But sometimes, wow.
