I have been enjoying some sample packs of the following five: Bolivar, H.Upmann, Partagas, SLR and Monte No.1.

I have very much enjoyed these and would like to buy a box or two. What would be your choice of lonsdale?

I'd go for the Vegas Robaina Clasico or the Flor de Rafael Gonzalez Lonsdale.

I like the Fonseca No. 1...a great mild- to medium-bodied smoke at a very atractive price.

I agree with Flashman. The Rafael Gonzales is superb and very complex - though, I must say, not particularly powerful. The good thing is it's easy to find some of these with some age already on them. I recently got a June 03 box and they're fantastic.

In regards to lonsdales, I feel most of them need at least 5 years of age to balance out, in fact, I believe most longer thing gage cigars need age before they smoke well. I think it has to do with the longer leaves used and the stronger back ends of the leaf at the head.

Of the Lonsdales I've had that were aged well, the best two are Monte No. 1 and Upmann Lonsdales.

With all of that said, one of the best young cigars I've ever smoked was the PL Lonsdale German Regional release. I've smoked 2 so far and was amazed.

Plume: interesting abou the PL lonsdales. I have a few of these but I've been sitting on them for fear they were still way too young to smoke. On your recommendation i'll have to light one up.

Lonsdale, precisely Cervantes 42 ring 165 mm long, is one of teh best balanced cigars IMHO, and yes the germal Regional Edition seem to ne quite good, but I would way at least three years. Partagas and Sait Luis rey are also in my favourite.
Don't forget the ERDM Lonsdale a real pearl in this world.

Well, with all respect the best of his kind for many reasons is the Partagás 8-9-8 V.
By far... any time. And with age this baby is a clasic smoke.

Good as it is, the 898 V is a dalia, not a lonsdale.

What's a few millimeters between friends? When someone says "lonsdale" I think of cigars between a 42 and 44 ring and 6 and 7 inches long, as I think most people do.

Partagas lonsdales are by far my favorite- but you must find the cabinet version. The dress box ones taste completely different. They are the only cigar I've had with such as huge difference between the two. Late 05 & the 06 RG lonsdales are also excellent. The SLR lonsdale is good, but very mild. I was lucky enough to snag a couple boxes of 92s a while ago. Those are strong & wonderful.

RyJ Cedros deluxe # 1 is probably my favorite Lonsdale still in production.

A couple of good Dalias include the La Gloria Cubana Medaille d'Or # 2 and the Bolivar Inmensa. The LGC Mdo #2 is among my favorite cigars of any size.

While we are on the subject of Dalias let's not forget about Ramon Allones 898s.

Ticonderoga #2, MantisMaker...great Dali-a...or so they say - lonsdale?

The RA 8-9-8 is still alive and well...! It is a dalia, and if we're talking a few millimeters, the dalia might just be a churchill, in which case, a Monte 1 is actually a churchill, and a RyJ Churchill is really a lonsdale. Hmmmm. Whatever works.

Smile Wink

A few mm. are important, and anyhow when you think to Cuban cigars the Vitola de Galera is important and precise. You must study Wink

In non cuban , the so called International Shapes you can say that a Lonsdale is also a Cervantes or a Dalia or a Cazadores Wink
