A friend brought me a Cuban cigar back from Mexico (not sure if i'm already breaking laws here). I quit smoking, so I want to know the legalities regarding either selling it (just one), or regifing it.
99.9999999% chance it's a "fake". Just give it to someone else's boss so you won't be fired once he or she smokes it.

There is only one shop in Cancun that sells legitimate Cuban cigars...La Casa del Habano. All the other shops, street vendors, etc. are selling counterfeits to unsuspecting American tourists. Unfortunate, but true.
What particular cigar is it? Did your friend tell you how much he paid for it or where he bought it? Legitimate Cuban cigars are not cheap in Mexico. A smaller cigar, such as a petit corona, usually fetches at least $10+ for a real one. Larger cigars usually go for $20-25 or more...alot more if they're Cohibas or EL's.
Giving the cigar away, legit or not, would likely not break any laws. Actually, being in possession of it, however, does. So if you give it away, you will no longer be breaking the law, but the person you give it to will as long as it remains in their possession. Selling the cigar would definitely be a no-no legally, and since it is likely fake, the person you sold it to would probably be very disappointed with the quality. Best to give it away with the warning that the cigar is probably not legitimate.

this is not exactly accurate information. we sell a large variety of smaller cigars under $10US, for example our r&j tres petit corona is under $9.
there are many vendors of legitimate cc in mexico. i'm sure you dont intend to be offensive and to spread false information and disparge those of us who are working hard to promote the habanos brand. are there falsos and piratas in mexico? most certainly. we are fighting those forces with every legal means available. please dont disparge an entire retail industry.

No need to be defensive. You are not reading what was said and are putting words in my mouth possibly due to your business interests. I said that there is only one shop in Cancun that sells legitimate Habanos. Do you have evidence to dispute this?
I also stated that legitimate smaller cigars in Mexico, like PC's, are $10 plus. You come back with RyJ TPC's (SMALLER than a PC) are about $9. That's hardly disputing what I said.
So, accusing me with words like "disparage" when I am doing nothing but stating accurate information speaks to your own obvious self interests. BTW, you should AGAIN read the thread at the top of this forum entitled "NO POSTING SOURCES". Respect the rules, por favor, unless you want your presence here to be transparent.
