a dear friend of mine gave me a Monti No. 5, that he has had in his humi for about 2 yrs. all i can say is WOW. heres my thoughts-at first draw i was immediately hit with strong flavors of cedar, than it turned to a nougat flavor with a vanilla undertone. around half way i got more vanilla and deep roast coffee and cedar flavors. i than picked up milk chocolate and cocoa flavors. there were so many flavors going on it was hard to place them all. i smoked this stick down to about 1/2 an inch. it was just amazing, by far the best smoke of my life.
the aroma was a cross between hot coca and fresh brewed coffee.
i also realized a few things. 1. i can see what all the hype about cc is about. blew away anything i have smoked in the past. 2. anyone that has told me try this cigar it tastes just like a cuban-they are full of crap-nothing i have ever smoked is even comparable to this stick. 3. i gotta figure out a way to get more of these.
4. i would chose this stick 100/100 times.
happy smoking everyone

its a small smoke...took about 30 minutes to start burning my fingers but had all the qualities of much larger sticks and did not lack one bit in flavor.
im hooked!
just wish these were more available

Welcome to the club, Grant! If you like the Monte, don't neglect the classic No. 2. Many will say negative things about them, but I have to say that the '06s are smoking very well right now, and should only get better.
Enjoy.

the guy that gave me this one gaev me a few more which included a monti #2, a partagas serie d no. 4 and a monti no. 1. they all have been aged about 2 yrs...im just waiting for when i have a few hours to myself to fire up the #2.
they are really in a class all their own!

Very nice. Good luck with your habit, as there are many good Cubans to try, but also some good Padrons (1926/1964/80).

Cor: Steve, you have proven yourself to be a tremendous whack job.
As good as #4 are, the #5 MC is even better, more satisfying cigar in similar manner, I would say, as Petit Edmundo satisfies me more then regular Edmundo.
Curiously the opposite is true when I try to compare Partagas Serie Du Connaisseur #1 and #2 where, to me, the longer #1 is more excellent then #2.
Partagas, Montechristo and Bolivar are a true Holy Trinity in cigar world in my book.

Agreed, and let me say that is a VERY nice little sampler you've got there. With two years of age, they should all be smoking great right about now.
I'd agree that the Monte #2's were inconsistent for awhile, but the 06's and 07's have been solid. I think you're going to really enjoy that PSD4 though...
These NC guys don't know what they're missing.

nice linup grant.... your friend must really like you..
hope you don't find your new CC addiction to hard to deal with....
and as you'll smoke more CC's and have access to more of them as well, I can pretty much predict you'll become yet another CC snob, and refuse to smoke an NC's.... just wait, and you'll see.... even those 1946's or Opus X's won't compare to even a fonseca.. (and that is pretty low on the cuban scale)
and to add to all of that, remember that most CC's online will cost you cheaper than a good NC in the states...

Ain't that the truth Sal...
another reason why the embargo can't be lifted this easily..
i mean, think of it.. not only do the exiled Cubans loose their right to their land and the cigar names they owned (because we all know the only way Cuba will ever accept any deal, is because it will retain the biggest piece of the pie), but now, they have to stop producing the NC montes and cohibas and all the other NC's with Cuban names, or produce them under another name, but yet still sell them much more expensive than the CC that would become readily available at your local B&M ??
no way... and who exactly would still pay 30$ for a VSG, when you'll be able to get a Hoyo DC for cheaper (or the same price at the worst).. hell, I'd pay 10$ more for the Cuban, so imagine paying less ???

mind blowing and i totally agree. well i doubt ill be able to go strictly to cc, only due to availability, but i can sure try!

Welcome to the wonderful world of CC grant. 2 yrs aged classic CC's: your friend either loves you too much or he hates you - wants that you spend the rest of your life (or at least Castro brothers' life) in search
And don't say "i would chose this stick 100/100 times" - there are more to choose. You may soon find another CC stick of 100/100 choice, then another, and so forth. Happy smoking!
