Please forgive my ignorance.

I was at a local cigar and scotch event recently and I ran into a casual aquaintance who knows I dabble in CCs.

Anyway, he handed me a rag foot, pyramid shaped smoke. He said he got them a couple of weeks ago, directly from Santos.

Who is this guy and with a 3 week old cigar, is there a sick perioud I need to worry about?

thanks

I cant tell you much about the roller, but i have smoked a couple of these cigars. They are incredible right now. I wouldnt worry about them being in "the sick period" right now, but in my experience, custom rolled cigars that taste this good fresh, do go into a flat, muted period for a while until they get some long term age on them. I plan on smoking 1 more in the next month or 2 and then putting away the rest for 5+ years.

These are very strong cigars, but it sneaks up on you. You may want to sit down for the last 2 or 3 inches.

BTW, Are you sure they are pyramides? Mine are "rag foot" 109's, not pyramides.

Wasn't he the diabolical (as if there's any other kind) character in David Lynch's "Wild at Heart"? Willem Dafoe was great as the character "Bobby Peru"...bad case of gingivitis...and Laura Dern was great, too.

If this Santos is a roller on tour, the cigar will have been made with some decent tobacco that he (or she) brought with him (or her).

His real name is Crisanto Cárdenas Miranda, and at one time was the production chief at the Partagas factory (mid 90's). His work is excellent, but a lot of people find his personal blend a little strong, so he has "mild" down his custom rolls.

There is also a Santos doing a tour in Canada right now. Not sure of the extended name, but I'll try and find out.

It must be the same guy. I heard rumor that he was going to be touring Canada.

A few years ago I met a Cuban roller visiting my favourite tobacconist, rolling and selling cigars on the spot. They were excellent. AFAIK he brought his tobacco leafs from Cuba.

If this is similar type of deal how would be possible for a cuban guy to bring a cuban tobacco to US?

Would it not be a blatant disregard of US governmental regime way of fighting communism? How is it possible that the regime allows it?

This isn't a similar type of deal, as we're not talking about the US.

In your case, it was probably 1 of 2 scenarios:
1) It was brought in illegally
2) You were lied to about it being Cuban.

I would expect a little less mistaken assumptions from my fellow Canadian, kwijibo.

Not many people call US Great White North I suppose.

Too much pollution back East?

I'm confused. You ask how the US allows a cuban roller into Canada?

No confusion needed or expected.

All I've asked was how US Gov. allowed a cuban tobacco (not roller) into their own country.

My post was very clear. Are you asking in bad faith or did you sleep through reading comprehension classes?

Back to the topic then; are you able to answer my question?

Gotta say Janusz that I'm with the others on this. I assumed from your signature line that you were Canadian. I also assumed that the shop you were talking about was in Canada. Therefore, where does US law apply or enter into the discussion?

Is this shop on US soil? If so, and only if so, the answer to your question would be that it would be illegal and therefore probably someone was pulling someone's leg.

I don't believe that anyone is messing with you. We are just expressing genuine confusion.
