Ok say you had the choice between a box of Cohiba Reserva Selecion(box of 30 various cohiba vitolas) or 2 boxes of 06 Cohiba Piramides EL. The Reservas are Dic 2002 and the Piramides are Jun 07. The Reseravs are about equal in price to 2 boxes of the Piramides.

Which one is the better buy? A. in terms of future $$ value b. in terms of future personal consumption.

Thanks

You mean the Piramides are 2006 right otherwise they are fakes. No such thing as Cohiba 2007 EL Priamides.

Anyhow. That is a hard one. I have 4 boxes of the 2006 Piramides and they are great, but I have been eyeing the 2003 Reserves.

Either way you will not be disapointed. Just make sure the box code is 2006 on the piramides othewise pass on them.

I have not heard anyone raving about the Cohiba Reserva.

But the Piramide 2006 is amazing, I have 5 boxes left and most are for long term aging (5 to 10 years). Although they are great out of the box, their long term aging potential appears to be phenomenal.

Best box code is POS DIC 06

The last bacth of 06 Piramides have a Jun 07 box code. It is not unusual for a years EL to run into the next year.

The O1 Cohiba Pirimide was not as good as the 06. Again I have not heard anyone rave about the 01 Piraimde.

From what I have read in other posts, Cuba had some QC problems between 98-99 and 02, so I guess this series was part of that. I have learned a lot on this forum since joining yesterday....thanks to everyone for their responces.

Weren't you here when they first came out? Folks were losing their minds. Effusive comes to mind.

I happen to be one who loved the original pyramides. I have a box left that I hold in as high esteem as the box of original Partagas Pyramides (which were not as well received when they first hit the street - oh how we learn).

So BJM, let me get this straight: you can get two boxes of the new Pyramides for the same as a box of the original Reservas? Seems a no-brainer to me from a pure arbitrage perspective. Either you're getting a real good deal on the Reservas or you're paying a lot for the EL's.

Of course it depends a lot on what you're buying them for. My opinion is that the Reservas will always be more valuable, like from a resale perspective, but that doesn't make them smoke any better. I ran through a box years ago and they were just alright (smaller ones were the better ones). I still have one, and suspect that they would smoke pretty good right about now. Don't plan on finding out any time soon, but would be curious what others thought.

Full disclosure: I'm not one of these guys who thinks the new Pyramides are so amazing. They're good, and will likely get better, but there have been lots better EL's, even at this stage of development, IMVHO.

The Reservas have been heavily discounted at some vendors lately. Me, I'm happy with a nice Siglo I.

Yoruba,

You are one of the first to say they are good. I have never had one so I cannot compare them to the original, but a handful of folks on the board said they were mediocre and are not as good as the 2006.

Not that BJM could pick up a box of the 01's, unless he wanted to pay some serious $$.

Glad you enjoy them.

I agree that the Partagas Piramides 2000 EL's are also amazing, I have 10 9 left and covet them.

But this is rather odd, as you can still get Monti C's with a 2003 box code, and Monti Robustos EL's, with the a 2006 box code.

This is true. It depends when they first boxes were released. I believe the 06 Cohiba Piramides El arrived later in the year. The Partags Piramides 2000 EL were also around with an 01 box code as the first run of these was OCT00, NOV00 and Dec00. Then they rolled into 01 dates.

The highly coveted Partagas Piramides boxes are those with the oct00 code. I am lucky enough to have a box of these as well as Dec00. The later ones are arguably of lesser quality.
