Hello i'm new to this forum.. I've been smoking fine cigars for about 20 years.. I just could'nt wait to find a site where i can tell my story and experience with fake cubans..
I have a friend i work with thats originally from Spain.. He went about 2 years ago, and brought me back some Cohiba's.. Heck, the box alone was awesome.. The top was a sliding glass, that came with a lil water bottle type thing that served as a humidor.. He got them off-beat, and they were only 60.00.. Well, they tasted like they were 1.00 cigars.. So, he went again in the last 2 weeks.. He just went back to Spain a few weeks ago, and this time i ask him to get something different.. Because i do knoe the cohibs are the most copied.. Well, he came back with the same box.. And, again they're fake.. Its funny cause prior to this last time i read an article in cigar international about how Spain was big in counterfeit cubans.. Boy are they! They also mentioned a few other countries, but i can't recall which ones..

Just to let you know, Cohiba doesn't make boxes with glass tops. They are pretty much all wooden boxes, mainly cedar. You may want to check out the Counterfeit gallery below to educate yourself on Cuban cigars. Good luck next time. A big red flag is usually the low price. Expect to pay well over $150 for real cubans. Not sure how it is in South America but in Europe and Canada the price of a box is over $200.

Caveman thanx.. While, i do have a local supplier right down the street i figured what the heck he's going, and if he can get his hands on a box thats cheaper then what i pay, then great.. I pay 300 locally.. I should-a woke up after the first glass-box 2years ago.. Thats why i told him to get something different.. But, he came back with the same thing.. But, please if you know of a place that has-em for the price u mentioned please e-mail me at dirtyjoker1@hotmail.com.. Thanx in advance

See if you can find out where he got those things. There are plenty of reputable shops in Spain. I think about half of all (legitimate)Cuban cigars go to Spain. They must be sold somewhere.

glass-top fauxhibas.... man, do people ever learn ????

what's next, quintero EL 2007 ?? or no, wait jose L. Piedras in a special edition humidor..... now we're talking quality genuine smokes Wink

well, live and learn buddy.. most people have had a glass-top cohiba brought to them by a friend at some point in their life..

my solution: never ask anyone to bring you back CC'S, unless they are serious smokers themselves, and know the ins and outs of cubans... but in that case, they might want to bring back their allowance of cigars to themselves.. so you're left with buying them yourself only...

Looks like the "dirty joke" is on those responding to this nonsense.

Anryan... My friend knows nothing about cigars.. He was born in spain and goes back every year to visit his parents.. He told me he got them by the port.. He explained to me it was like NYC where you walk around and can get anything cheaper then normal.. I just imagined it was someone from the ship that was trying to make a few bucks in his pocket before the cigars got shipped to reputable stores.. But, now that i think about it, it was probally a ship from one of those carribean islands that make-em, and the guys probally bring-em along and get suckers like my buddy and me!! But, i must also say again in one of the last JR cigar mags it did mention Spain as being a big maker of Fake cubans,, along with a few other euro' countries.. Even if they didnt come in the glass top box any1 could tell by the taste they were'nt cubans. Hopefully i helped on where he got them..

Yes...anything FAKE cheaper than normal. Your friend sounds like the type of guy that buys a $50 "Rolex" on the street and thinks it's genuine. No offense, but the way you explained it, that's how it sounds. Also, just so you know, there are plenty of legitimate Habanos in Spain. In fact Spain imports more Habanos than any other country in the world. So telling people to stay away from Spain is quite misleading. As in any country, you have to know what you're looking for and where to go to avoid the obvious pratfalls. Buying pretty much any luxury item off the street ANYWHERE just ensures you're getting either something counterfeit or something stolen.

Also, if you're procuring Habanos from your local cigar shop in the U.S., that is a quite risky endeavor as well. 9 times out of 10 (or more) they are counterfeit. The very few that are not will be very highly priced relative to the price you could pay ordering from a legitimate online site. Be very careful.

HAHAHAHA!!! Good one! Your friend bought you a box that a child would know is fake and you say "beware of Spain."

I think what you mean is, "beware of accepting cigars from people who don't know their hand from their RASS."

If you buy something cheap from somebody in the street, no matter what country you're in and especially if you don't know what to look out for, it's either stolen, fake or illegal.
Spain has plenty of reputable shops, if your friend goes again don't try to go cheap, have a look at this site. I think it's very well put together regarding cigars in Spain.

Yes i would like to thank all for great imputs.. But, i must say some of you guys are flamming assholes... Let me start by saying again,, this is a friend of mine who grew up in spain.. Know's nothing about cuban cigars.. As i mentioned also i'm not some novice who just started smoking cigars yesterday.. I've been enjoying cigars for 20++ years.. To set here and pass judgement on a friend who just tried to get some cubans.. I myself enjoy cubans from a local dealer.. And, NO they're not fake.. I know a cuban.. And if you are a shop owner these guys deal with the same people who the fed e-mailed me out-a canada and other euro ones.. Like i mentioned Spain is ONE OF THE LARGEST PRODUCERS OF FAKE CUBANS.. So i can say stay away from spain if i choose to do so.. This was printed in a recent jr's or cigar international catalog.. Well, i saw first hand.. Yea, i was'nt there to look at the stogies.. SO he got-em anyway and thats fine.. I just came on here to share my story.. Not to get trashed.. Sure there are many reputable cubans in spain.. In that same sentence they are one of the top fakers too!

dirtyjoker I'm sorry if my post offended you, I was just kidding around. But seriouslly you can get fakes everywhere, and as I have found out even at the Partagas Factory in Havana. The reason some people are so in your face over this is because the glass top box is the worlds most famous fake, that sould have set off alarm bells right away. From what I hear Spain is a very good place to buy CCs since the prices are one of the closest to Cuba, you just have to know where to look and who to trust. Smile

P.S. Cuba probably has the most fakes. You can't walk a block down Varadero with out being offered a box of "Cohibas" or "Montecristos" from people on the street.

appreciate dusko! No problemo.. You see, what i usually do is by in numbers with other smokers i work with.. So we'll split boxes.. I have had a box myself on many ocassions, and do realize they are wooden.. But, i must say when i first saw the Glasstop i thought to myself wow now thats nice.. Looked legit.. I figured new look.. Yea right! Anyway, live and learn.. I guess i'm just a stu-nod.. lol.. I guess the hardest thing to fathom was i can see the islands being a top counterfeit, but not a country like Spain.. I guess my new nicname should be glasstop...

Well, if you're getting your information on Cuban cigars from JR's and Cigars International then you must certainly know your Cubans alright...

Oh well, at least you have the incontrivertable expertise of your "dealer", so you won't have to count on any flaming ashholes' input you might receive here. Shouldn't be any harder to seperate yourself from this forum than say, Spain. Enjoy your smokes! Big Grin

You might want to branch out and learn a thing or two from someone besides one guy who sells "Cubans" under the table in a U.S. cigar shop. That way you won't come off looking like yet another bull-headed, ill-informed know-it-all...and hey, you might actually gain some real knowledge that you can put to use and share...seriously.

I'd like to thank you for one thing. For being an excellent example of why sources shouldn't be given to just anyone who asks.
