I have the opportunity to buy a box of bolivar lonsdales from june 2000. Anyone know anything about these cigars? I know they were discontinued not too long ago. Thanks for any input I may get

I have one box. I'm glad they discontinued them. Mine are bland.

Actually, I have two boxes from 2000. I think these cigars are wonderful. Takes about an inch to get going, but then turns into a really subtle flavorful smoke. And they're not too expensive. Only drawback is that a lonsdale is not my favorite vitola, but it's a small price to pay.

Get them.

I would make sure your tobacconist will take them back if there a large number of plugged cigars in the box. 2000 was a bad year construction wise especially with lonsdales. The way to check if they are tight is to look at the feet of the cigars and see if they are overfilled, also put them in your hand and if they are heavy( this takes experience) then they will be plugged. I would also clip 4 or 5 and if you get a couple of pluggged ones in the first 4-5 the rest will have problems.

Boli lonsdales when construction is good are fantastic cigars. I have a couple of boxes of 93's and a couple boxes of 98's and they smoke great. They have great nose, complex flavors and that Boli spice.

99 and 00 also had problems with a lack of Ligero, these really are a crap shoot, you would be better off passing and going for some newer models like 02 and later.

Master I appreciate your help. I actually decided not to buy that box and with what you said, it is not worth the gamble. I ordered a box of coronas extras from 04 instead. What should I expect from these?

There are lots of great cigars to try, but I've had no draw problems and I pounced on a second box after smoking just one stick from the first box.
