I spoke with one of the Econ professors I had as an undergrad (I'm now in grad school), because I had this exact same question for him. He said that look back to January, the dollar was in about the same spot and just like anything else it will fluctuate. His advice (and he's a cigar smoker as well, we enjoy one a week and shoot the $H!&) was just wait it out, what goes up must come down and if, and he said this is a BIG IF, the economy recovers, the greenback should regain some power. So, I'm waiting awhile before making any large purchases.

Both! I was planning on making a purchase next week, so I'll do that still. Then I'll see what prices are like in the weeks coming up. I know vendors are using it as as opportunity to get business. I got an e-mail urging customers to buy because at the end of the month prices will be higher.
Still cheaper than paying 150% sales tax, or whatever the f*cking tobacco tax in NY is now.

I'm a cash trader at an I-bank and we're expecting the dollar to jump back up and the economy to go deflationary very soon. I'm deferring purchases until then, except from some select sites.
I think that if Cuba is reducing production then demand is obviously down. I would anticipate some aggressive pricing in the cigar industry just like everywhere else.

I'm always wishing that prices will go down but I haven't seen much change in the last five years. I'm paying the same for a box of Monte #2 today that I was in 2005. Prices due fluctuate but I can usually find a site with a good price on what I'm looking for. I know what Santa's bring me.
Just stocked up a little bit more, so I have two full humidors, a full wine fridge and a full off-site storage locker...should be good insulation against the worthless paper becoming more so...
Personally, if I wasn't so well supplied, I'd be buying now. Prices for a lot of good stock, and not that deep discount junk, are actually lower than a couple years ago. 08 RASS for less than $130 is a bargain.
I'm more worried about inflation than deflation. All the debt the government is issuing has to be paid eventually, and it's easier to pay it off in inflated dollars.
Nice to see a good discussion without degenerating to namecalling too. Well done.
About a year ago I got a box of Reyes for just over $100. Now it's marked up 20%. That's just about how much the dollar has droped in that time (to the euro). I haven't noticed retail increases yet.

08 RASS for $130??? Everywhere I've seen, it's been like $160-$180
As for inflation, it's going to happen. Probably around June, though. It's inevitable. The Fed has already said that the only way to lighten the debt burden on everybody is through inflation. Paul Volckler will be fighting inflation again like in the 80's.
