I have gotten great advise form the list - so its time to go to the well one more time. Just to give a little background - I have the BRC Party SD4, Part SP2 and H Upman mag 46 (with a box of RJ short church on the way). Of all of these I have to say my overall favorite is the BRC. Now I'm about the make my next purchase and I have narrowed it down to the Monty 2 or the H Upman mag 50. I have not tried either so I'm relying on you.

I'd probably go with the Monty as well but I do like the Mag 50 a lot. I think the Mag 50 will smoke better with less age so if that is a factor you might want to get the Mag 50. Just my 2 cents.

Prefacing this with...having only smoked a handful of monte #2s...I don't care for them. Must be the only guy here with this opinion.
They certainly are quality smokes. Someone described them as light with cocoa and bean notes. Yes bean, like vanilla bean without the vanilla; a smoothness or roundness of flavor. Sounds strange but that's what they taste like to me. And there are more enjoyable taste profiles available.

im going to have to agree with the mob on this one, Monte #2 before H. Upmann Mag 50.
the monte #2 is a far more distinct cigar. it has pleasing toasted tobacco flavor with bits of nuttiness at the 1/2 way point. i love the bold impact of the flavors. this piramide is wide and seems to almost open a bit at the foot like a clarinet. it's offers tons and tons of smoke. i wonder if its impact hasnt softened a bit since the introduction of the edmundo. (the edmundo is like an evolutionary step towards the monte open line.) the monte #2 is iconic and the '08 & '09 boxes have done nothing to disappoint.
the h. upmann mag 50 is a wonderful cigar, offering both rg and length. it has very nice h. upmann flavors, but it isnt the best h. upmann. most customers feel that the mag 46 offers more concentrated taste, but im not so sure. i might chose a cab of mag 50 over a few boxes of h. upmann #2, but it wouldnt even be a given.
looks like its the Monty 2. I'll have to wait a few weeks - I've overextended the budget. I snagged a box of Padron 80th for $150 (just couldn't pass it up), a box of RJ short Church and a box from a limited run (200 boxes) of Tatuaje from Hawaii.
